Re: Book launch event(s)
Hey Paul, I'd love to make the Milwaukee event. As usual, my summer gig schedule is getting busy, but if I'm free (and have the energy) I'll head up!

Re: 8 String strings
I use the GHS Boomers 8 string set (red silk BTW). They're practically identical to the gauges used by Rickenbacker. One thing I do though is I change out the low E for a .105. The .090 is just too floppy, especially since I'm tuned down a 1/2 step. That combined with my Teeder 8 saddle bridge makes...

Re: John Paul Jones' mystery bass
Somewhere - maybe on my home computer - there's a picture of JPJ with a 4005. Don't know if it was his or borrowed. Might have been from his session days and not Zep.

Re: Rickenbacker bass with effects
Anyone got a good way to simulate the slurpy bass sounds on "No Quarter" by led Zep? An early key bass synth? Anyone know what JPJ used on this track? Pretty sure that's a Fender Rhodes with the tremolo on. There's also some bass pedals on there. You could simulate that a number of ways w...

Re: When did McCartney sand off the points on the "horns?"
Bad back, too heavy. Yeah, I think it's a long shot, but it IS possible it was to reduce the weight some. :?: Or he was just high, high, high... 8) That thing tripped me up for years, along with the color of Squire's bass. When I got my first white 4001 at age 15, I wondered why it didn't look like...

Re: Interesting new product
One other thing,, if your an aggressive player and really dig in, I could see this thing cracking right in the middle. :( +1 I did read the ad though and see that it's 1/4'' thick polycarbonate, so it could be fine. Hopefully the guy gave it somewhat of a beating before putting it on the market.

Re: Fireball - Deep Purple live in 1972
Man, I LOVE Glover, but I could never stand that Fireball solo. Those pathetic bends make me want to stick a knife in my ears! LOL! Maybe he was trying to be avant-garde or something???

Re: Interesting new product
Nicely done. I rest my thumb there often as well, but have never had a problem with just the pickguard itself. To each his own!

Re: Benoit David out.
Anybody notice that this new singer was one of the top picks for the BASS position in the Queen Extravaganza? Interesting. I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but I kind of love seeing the passion this topic has inspired. And the whole deleted posts thing reminds me of the way the Ric Police...

Re: A 4003 neck is more like...
About the only similarity between a Ric neck and a P Bass neck is nut width. From there on up, it's a totally different feel. As mentioned, a Ric neck doesn't have anywhere near the taper of any Fender neck. I like Jazz Bass necks a lot, until you get up past the 12th fret. Then the width seems awkw...

Re: 4001C64 pickguard
I just need a tracing. I doubt a straight up C64 guard would fit my '93 8 string. I was going to take the tracing, lay mine on top of it, and create a hybrid that will fit, and not require any drilling.
