19 years in September for me - and I believe this is the first time I've ever posted in the Basses subforum :)

Re: Why Did You Let Your Rickenbacker Go?

I let my 330/12 go for two reasons - one, I realized that I was more in love with the idea of owning a Rickenbacker 12-string than actually playing it, and two, I wanted to use its value to help me finance another guitar purchase.

It was a lovely, lovely instrument, but I hardly ever played it.

I'd completely agree with your assessment, Joelle - he's up there with Bowie in my book too.

Paisley Park is two miles from my house. Feels like we've lost a neighbour as well. It's been a busy day around here.

Oh YEAH!!! You could even go with matching TV knobs!
Unlikely - I'm one of the few (apparently) who really don't care for those knobs...

Happy Thanksgiving to all from an Englishman living in America. Today is my 31st Thanksgiving here, and it is by far my favourite holiday, even though I don't eat pie :)

Great job, Miguel, and all those who participated. I'm so glad Mr. Squire was able to see it.

Damn hard to watch though.

Re: Nut material on 650 Dakota

Thanks all. The high E string is a bit too close to the edge of the fretboard. I can re-cut and fill to move it in a bit but I was considering just replacing it. Hence the questions on material. Sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion :) I don't honestly think the material matters - use whatever ...

What's the opinion on changing the nut to bone?
Why?

Unless the existing nut can't be adjusted to taste, replacing it is a pretty low-return proposition, IMO. Any sonic improvements will only be audible (if at all) on open strings.

Re: The 4003S is back!!!

At $1899, a 4001S should street for about $1350-$1400, which would make the budget model it was originally intended to be. Time will tell.... Pick of the Ricks has them available for pre-order at $1495. That may not be 'budget', but it's certainly not unreasonable. Heck, I haven't been a bass playe...

Lovely piece of functional engineering.

It's a shame they don't make one for a 12-string.
