RIC 12 with newer solid state amps?
Anyone tried a RIC 12 with Janglebox through one on the newer Solid State DSP amps, like, for example, the Fender Mustang IV 2 X 12, or Orange 60 watt transistor 1 X12, for "close to" tube like jangle? The 2016-17-8 Solid States seem to be truly blurring the lines with traditional tube amps ...

Re: Capping a "hot" toaster
Just to protect Kenny here:
One of the dictionary definitions of "honk" (I am not making this up) is "the cry of a wild goose".
So, with regard to Rickenbackers, it IS relevant, as a... BYRD sound!

Re: Capping a "hot" toaster
Now, Kenny,THAT'S a new RIC adjective for me.
Kind of like the "Honk-eys of Rhimney"? A hot toaster "P 90ed" with a cap sounds interesting.
Cheers all

Capping a "hot" toaster
1)Will adding in the ".0047" (decimals right?) to a bridge "hot"toaster do anything noticeable, or is it really only for the vintage toasters. If not, anybody want to swap me a decent 7.4 toaster and cap for a perfectly good April of 1994 11k? 2)Will a neck "hot" toaste...

Re: Ric McGuinn Comp vs JBox sound
Sorry for any confusion. My "personal experience" is only with a 12k toaster 360 12 with TI flats through a Jangle Box. I have not done a side by side with a 370 12 McGuinn for comparison. Only audio comparison to what I hear on my gear through a 50 watt tube Ampeg 2 x 12 combo compared to...

Re: Ric McGuinn Comp vs JBox sound
I guess what I am saying is that the original McGuinn on board comp seems to transform the hot pickups in a droning Sitar way that the JB doesn't exactly do through a hot-toastered 360 12. It must be that unique chip that Mr. Hall says is no longer around. The reason I ask is that several "Holy...

Ric McGuinn Comp vs JBox sound
For those who own or have tried it, what is the perceived difference in sound between an original McGuinn 12 with built in comp and playing the same guitar with comp off through a jangle box? I am thinking that there is some discrepancy between the two, even though they are in the same "ball pa...

Hot toasters swap to "scats" question
I have have a 1994 blond 12er with the hot toasters. If I swap those to 7.4K scatter wounds, do I have to do the "capacitor tone thing". What is that exactly, and what real difference does it make. I have a J box and am contemplating getting more BACK FROM RIO tone out of it. There is a ce...

Re: Janglebox 'secret' helper
For anyone out there with 'hot toasters' or 'hi gains' on their 12 strings, even if you don't use a JBOX, get an Enhancer (used for around $75 on EBAY) and use the settings I describe above, and you will begin to hear MORE from your tube amp in terms of brightness and rich mid ranges. ADD a JBOX and...

Janglebox 'secret' helper
Hello, All, Wrote sometime ago about having trouble getting JBOX to 'do' its thing. Have an April '94 360 12 mapleglow with 'hot' toasters.Tried a couple of JBOXs and was just not 'hearing' it and returned them. Re- strung with ThomasTik flats: getting closer. I use a used old BOSS EH2 ENHANC...

Another 12 string switch to Thomastiks
After hearing over the years about how flat wounds are a big contribution to "that sound" for a RIC 12 I ordered some from Pick of the RICS. As posted elsewhere, I was not familiar with the nuances of flat wound stringing up, and as I bent the first low E around the tuning post (as you wou...

Thomastik flats on 12 string - problem
I just got my first set of flats for my RIC 12. As I put the low E string through the tuning post and began to wrap it by hand around the post, it broke right at the insert hole on the post leaving the excesss string and the rest of the string connected by a mess of unraveled wrap. I did not put the...

Re: Questions about the Janglebox
Craig (Mr. Hall), What a nice surprise to have you "chime" in with such wisdom from the source of those beautiful sound clips. I did suspect that your Ibanez was direct to the board, and maybe I was expecting too much in terms of "plug in and play". i just swapped my old 50 watt ...
