The Shelters

Recently learned of this band after their performance on The Late Show. Too good not to post here. The 360/12 is front and center, and their debut album is full of great songs. Enjoy!

Hi-gain wire question

Greetings, folks. I have a quick question about Hi-gain pickup wiring. While swapping out my pickups, I noticed the end of the winding wire had broken away from the main, grey wire (see attached image). Right where the grey insulation ends and it is soldered to the base of the surround, there is a s...

Re: NAMM Rumors

I agree. I remember seeing him play it on "Mary Jane's Last Dance" during a concert in '95 or '96. Really cool guitar!

This is really inspiring. Keep up the good work, and please continue to post updates as you're able to! I'll be eager to see the continued restoration of this bass.

Re: painting white pickguards...????

...and.... if you polish and round or bevel the edges (takes about 1/2 hour, wetsanding by hand, followed by buffing with a rag and polishing compound) you get some really neat glowing edge effects. Much richer than the pre-colored white plexi. You can do the same for gold or black, but black isn't...

Thank you, Chad, for this added information (also very interesting). The photographs of the current auction items and the accompanying video are truly remarkable.

I find this particularly fascinating! Great, up close images of that pickguard.

I wish his instruments could some day be on display, and as accessible as Harrison's were at the recent Grammy Museum exhibit.

Re: Guitar Center Beatle special Ricks

I just spoke with Guitar Center online (called the 800#) who called three different stores in my area (in the Minnesota area) none of whom knew anything about these and one "Manager" went so far as to say they weren't Rickenbacker dealers anymore so no one in the Twin Cities would be carr...

Re: painting white pickguards...????

Very helpful post.

Along these lines, what brand/color best fits for creating the vintage gold pick guards? (I seem to recall someone had a particular Testor's spray paint color recommendation that matched well.)

Re: Did some mods to my 330

I've contemplated performing very similar mods to my 330 Fireglo. Now that I've seen these pics, I think I'm ready to do so! You've done a great job. Beautiful guitar.

Re: Peter Buck - Brand of 12 Strings

Jon, That is a wonderful show, and it captures the band at the height of their Byrds influence, when they were touring to support what I consider to be their best album. Too bad the only 12-string in the show appears when Peter straps on his Jetglo 360/12 to play "So. Central Rain" :!: Ro...

Re: Peter Buck - Brand of 12 Strings

Interesting discussion. I did see a concert video on YouTube at some point in the past, clearly from the "Chronic Town" or "Murmur" days, and he was playing a Mapleglo 330/12 on stage. It was the first time I'd seen that particular guitar of his. I would be very surprised if Pet...

Re: Toaster covers on HiGains W/ adj. pole pieces

It is usually the cover that gets microphonic....what I would do is to use some white silicone (the kind that dries pliable and soft) and stick a couple dabs under the cover and then squish the cover down into it. It is non-permanent and won't mess up the pickup yet it will stop the microphonics fr...
