Re: Model of the week 18: Chris Squire Limited Edition

I too have never held, played or even seen a 4001CS.

(If anyone wants to help me out though by lending me one for a bit, then that'd be grand!) :D

Re:

Ned's ATomic Dustbin had 2 bassplayers and the one was playing a Ric like a guitar while the other played a musicman... Funny you should mention them - I bought a CD of theirs the other day. Weren't really Grunge though - Grebo I think instead. Still, quite right - two bass players. One (Musicman S...

Re: When did they stop making the 4001?

You tell me... Except for stripe, rods, name and two extra screws these are the same basses. Wim Vanderstraeten (wim) hmmmm....so except for (1)center stripe (2)truss rods (3) name plate designation (4) two piece different pickguard with xtra screws...they are the same bass ??? same basic design ap...

Is the story behind this genuine?

I'd be interested in what people think:

It's a very nice looking bass, not so sure about the upside down looking TRC though.

Re: That NEW string sound

Personally whether flats or rounds, dont like the tone when they are fresh out of the pack, I love when the strings settle in and lose that extreme brightness to them.. I'm completely the other way - strings are little or no use to me once the brightness is gone. Horses for courses though, isn't it...

Re: Japanese RM1999's re-issues

Cheers guys! Stunning looking basses but yeah, wallet-worringly high in the price. Ah well, I shall continue dreaming. :D Pete - could it be a tweaked c64 rather than a v63? The tweaking would have included correcting the headstock. And could it be this run of RM style basses that's responsible for ...

Japanese RM1999's re-issues

I spotted a few of these recently on the Kurosawa Music website. At first I thought hmmm, v63's, but they are clearly advertising them as "Rickenbacker 1999"s. All skirting around 2500-3000 quid (sorry, 4000USD for those not UK based) and all fireglo. They had about four up when last I loo...

Re: No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed - live 1969

Much prefer the bass sound from back then - proper treble clank.

Would dearly love a set of Taurus 3's but I'm the same - the other half would actually kill me if I was to rock up with a set! That said, if you're doing alright with the PK5 then you're right to hang back for the 8 string.

Re: Pickguards.

Just a quick thanks for the responses guys - I'll be going with Pickguardian (once I get paid!).

Will stick a photo up after it's done.

One more question though - would the pickup cover be compatible with a horseshoe surround?

Re: No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed - live 1969

The M13 is the business. Our singer got one a couple of months ago. I've only tried it though his guitar but its a pretty astounding piece of kit. I'm using an old Korg AX1B - I wouldn't trust it for changing effects for the same reason as your Boss - signal gap when you step on it. Still, it has a ...
