Re: The good old days

Gene, that is a 4004L Laredo made to look 4001S-ish. I'm pretty sure that's a Schaller tail/bridge. Thanks Paul... Now that I look a little closer I can see what it is, but looking at the picture on my phone, I was fooled into thinking it was an S of some type.... Well it kind of IS a sort-of S. :m...

Re: The good old days

Just last July,I found a '15 Laredo on ebay (unsold) for $1150. It was local, after looking it over,i offered $1k.
(It had had Several inexpert mods done, plus no hardshell case, but i think that was a bit of a bargain!)

Re: Care and feeding of a 4003W or 4003SW?

I bought my Cheyenne in May 2014,and did the Watco's Danish oil treatment on it around that time.it made a huge difference in the appearance at the time. I haven't done it again, since,as it hasn't seemed to need it. Maybe on the 3rd anniversary coming up in a few monthes..... Woody, when you did th...

Re: 4004 CII question on changing hadware..

Replacing the volume and tone pots,as well as the mismatched capacitor with hb-optimal ones pretty much does away with the "dark" tone. I've seen it time and again on my collection. Both my Cii,and my Cheyenne1 were almost comically muffled sounding at flat amp settings, until i had the com...

Re: 4004 CII question on changing hadware..

I've already checked this out, and verified that using UltraLites will leave the Schaller mounting screw holes exposed. This isn't that noticeable if you dowel the holes, and touch it up with a black Sharpie. However, the holes in the headstock need to be reamed oversize to 9/16" for the HipSh...

Re: 4004 CII question on changing hadware..

Hey there,Jeff, Do you have any back-of-headstock photos of that Cii with the ultralights installed? The closest I have is one of my old FG 4001 with Ultralites on it, none of the back of the Cii. Headstock Back_1200a_6804.jpg Hope this helps. I was actually more curious to see if the ultralights c...

MF also sells a power conditioner multiplug unit, usually for $50,on stupid deal,$30.
It completely eliminated the RF noise issues i was experiencing with my shielded 4000.
(The shielding didn't slow it down at all.)

Re: Ric FL basses can sound like a fretted Ric?

I have a defretted Cheyenne ii,so right off the bat it's diametrically different to a fretless 4001/3. (Humbucker pickups in the 4004 "dropped" positions,no laquer on the fretboard, body construction, etc.) Every once in a while,i will take it alone to practice and play every song for 2-3 ho...

Well I'll bet those chrome 4004 knobs add about half a pound to the bass! Have you ever picked up four of these at once?!
Yep,and I wonder if the chrome pickguard is metal?

The walnut construction would make it nearly a pound lighter, which is always a good thing....for me anyway
