So,other than it needing some wiring attention, what did you think of it?
The 4004 models are my favorite Rick basses, ever. Guess that’s why i have 5 of them......

Re: Who gigs with a combo amp?
I’m late to this party, and have noted your dislike of the Markbass’ fur coat, :) But since you asked,i’ve been using the cmd121p 1-12 combo and a 1-12 Traveller cab as my rig for the last 6-7 years. At one point i bought a used markbass 800 watt/tube preamp head and swapped it into the combo. Every ...

Re: Modifications
Ooh very cool! That first 4004 reminds me of a 4002 with the pickup placement... That was the idea! When Dane (and original owner John Luke) modded the bass, moving the pickups to the 4002’s positions was the prime impetus. The surgery necessitated the need for a pickguard, and they chose the ...

Re: Modifications
I pretty much mod most of my basses, sometimes just small changes like trc’s,bridges, keys.
Dane Wilder did major mods to 2 of my favorites, both Laredos. And i have done quite a few mods on my mapleglo Cheyenne ii,the biggest change was defretting it.

I have one of him (Andy Tanas) at his home with it (pre-mod) before he became BOA’s bassist.jps wrote:Do you have any photos of the bassist from BOA with the bass?
(also showing a cool Sunn rig.)
I had a Sunn Solara head around this time, not sure if it was part of a transaction with Andy.

Re: Tell me about your first Rickenbacker...
It was about 1973,i was a huge Yes fan,(and Steppenwolf before them),so i was really very intrigued by these German guitars. I bought what was likely a ‘71-72 neck-through jg 4000,modded with a black pickguard and added neck toaster pickup. It was a wonderful bass, and the chap i bought it fro...

Re: Belated NBD
One of my bands played at the Oxenfre Public House last Saturday for their annual Halloween party. It was a blast! Looks like fun. The Oxenfrê wasn't there, last time I passed through back in 2012. What's the band name? The Ox is just next door to a (now closed) bar called the Pine Cone. That bar c...

And all this time I thought Laredos had maple fretboards! Did they used to? From when they were introduced in 1992 to around 1999 when they switched them to bubinga. Interesting! The guy i bought it from said he ordered it in ‘99,and had to specify maple fretboard. (It was built in February 2000).

Re: Has anyone done this to their TRC....
I spray painted one of the plastic raised letter trc’s gold, and used a black sharpie on the lettering.
I think it would be more difficult to change a plexi trc, though.

And all this time I thought Laredos had maple fretboards! Did they used to? I believe when they first started it was maple fretboards only, and at some point you could get either maple or finished bubinga. (?) Of course, a few years ago they went to finished Caribbean rosewood. My ‘15 laredo has that.

What part of Oregon are you in, Woody? I'm in Corvallis. I’m on the Lower left! (Brookings-on-the-Coast). This bass came from Tualatin,Oregon. I drove from Medford(and back) in one day to fetch it. I grew up in Medford. Used to play in Brookings quite a bit, at the Sporthaven and Dandy's ...

Thanks! I’ve got a Cheyenne with the unvarnished maple fretboard, too.radapaw wrote:I've been lusting after maple boarded 4004s all month, congrats!
I like them both, but the Cheyenne’s fretboard has a tendency to discolor. That Won’t be happening with the Laredo’s.
