Re: Please Help ID This Lap Steel

OK - my lap steel arrived earlier this week, (LOVE it) and as near as I can tell it is an S-100 that probably dates around 1960; (I haven't pulled it apart to look at the pot codes). From what I have been able to see, the major visual fact in distinguishing between the two is the headstock - the SW ...

Re: Please Help ID This Lap Steel

I just purchased a lap steel that looks very similar to this, but I have noticed that both the S-100 and the SW look alike. Is there a way to tell the difference?

Useless Ric Blog Post

I don't know if this has been posted anywhere else, but I just ran across this incredibly ignorant negative post about Ric's. I am still scratching my head as to why anyone would write an article about something that they admittedly know nothing about . . . . http://www.grandpalance.com/ten-reasons-...

Re: Henry Gross

From what I understand, Henry has a large guitar collection - including a number of Rickenbackers. Some of his collection is pictured on a CD that he did a number of years ago entitled 'I'm Hearing Things' . . . I'm sure that a Google image search would show some good results.

Re: Richard Thompson with McGuinn's Old Rickenbacker

Evidently, it's quite fashionable for celebrity guitarists to own an old "McGuinn" Rick of one sort or another. Johnny Marr is said to have an old "McGuinn" Rick by way of Phil Manzanera. Andrew Gold is said to have an old "McGuinn" Rick by way of Jeffrey Foskett. . Ma...

Re: What was your second ricky?

My first was a GORGEOUS 1996 fireglo 330 . . . my second was an equally gorgeous 1996 fireglo 4003 bass. The 4003 was a natural 2nd Ric choice for me because in every band I ever played in, I was the bass player.

Re: What drew you to Rickenbacker?

Long story short . . . For YEARS I couldn't find an electric guitar that suited my rhythm playing. A couple of friends who knew my style were adamant that a Rickenbacker would be perfect for me, but I balked because not only were Ric's impossible to find in my area, but they were also way out of my ...

Re: Luthier says: "RIC bass necks can't be flat"

I keep my neck as flat as possible, (strictly eying the neck), and I keep the action very low. The only problem I have ever had was with one bass where the frets were a bit high on only two notes (A# on E-string, and C# on G-string). Once the frets were leveled, it played great.

Hummmmmm . . . how about some sort of 360 Gold Top?

(I just felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up!)

Re: Rickenbacker Emptiness .

Whew - glad to hear that I'm not the only one. Several years ago I showed up at a gig with everything, EXCEPT MY BASS. I seriously considered driving to a nearby shop and buying a $150.00 Mexican P-Bass, just to get me through the gig - but I ended up making the 25-minute drive back home to get my o...

Re: Do you use a case humdifier with your Ric? What kind?

I have found that as long as the room where you regularly store your guitars is reasonably hydrated for most of the year, and as long as you keep your guitar in its case when you are not playing it, relatively short expose to extreme humidity swings should have little or no effect on an instrument ....

Re: Guitar ID Help

Don't you just hate it when guys answer their own questions? Apparently this is a modified mid-60's Gibson Melody Maker. In later years the guitar was refinished in white, and was sold to Joan Jett, who has used it as her main guitar since the late 'Runaways' era. (It is the guitar pictured on 'Bad ...

YOUR Signature Model

If you were a famous musician, (although I am pretty sure there are a few around here), and you were offered your own Rickenbacker signature model, how would you design it?
