Re: Gretsch Dynasonics 2003

I used to have a 2007 Gretsch 6128TDS that I foolishly let go. Regarding the stock Dynasonics: they have a very twangy yet percussive sound with not a lot of mids. The best sound IMO is produced by both pu's in combination. To get the most out of theses pu's in a Jet, it's best to raise the bodies o...

Re: To keep or not 2005 330/12

I have a '14 620/6. The neck profile is what I would describe as a slim to medium D shape...it's not what I would describe as particularly chunky; slim enough to get around on with ease but with just enough girth to comfortably support my old hand and keep it from cramping. Just to note: I have very...

Re: 360/12V64 Fretboard Finish

Fingerboard wood, even of the same species is going to vary from guitar to guitar: lighter, darker, figuire, amount of grain and of course how much the clear coat has aged. I do agree that the newer Caribbean Rosewood / Chechen that is now being used is really nice. I have a 2013 620/6 and the finge...

Re: The best money I ever spent

Was having some buzzing issues with the stock bridge on my 620/6. The height adjustment screws would sometimes get loose and buzz. The Mastery would certainly cure that problem...but I just don't have the $$$ at this time for that much of an investment so I did the old clear nail polish fix (dabbed ...

Re: Where can I go to have my guitar restrung?

My 620 is a 6 string so doing a re-string is no big deal even with the "R" tailpiece. last time I changed strings I used a capo which did help. If you were planning on keeping the 12 string, I'd suggest converting it to a trapeze tailpiece...much easier to re-string. You can use the tape m...

Re: The new Gretsch 12 strings?

As usual you are wrong. Prior to the Chet Atkins models, Gretsch guitars did not have zero frets. In fact, the first generation Chet models (the one's with Dynasonic pu's) did not have zero frets. The zero fret was something that Chet requested and was added around the time they transitioned to Filt...

Re: 360W Neck Fit nad Finish

I wouldn't get too overconcerned re tung oiling the finish.....especially the neck. The neck (back and fingerboard) will continue to be conditioned by the natural oils from your hands / fingers while you play it. More than likely over time, the back of the neck will pick up a really nice semi-glossy...

Re: Filtertron with ceramic or Alnico Magnets

It should have Alnico Hi Sen Filtertrons. Around the time FMIC took over manufacture and marketing of Gretsch in late 2002, early 2003, the stock Gretsch Filtertrons switched from Ceramic to more vintage correct Alnico magnets along with a general upgrade in electronics to fullsize CTS pots, Switchc...

Certainly would not question their playing ability (and the 360 did sound nice) but clueless when it comes to Rickenbackers.

Congrats on your 360/12. POTR's are great to buy from. Purchased my 620/6 from them back in the fall. Chris is the best.

Re: Love my Rics but its time for a Tele. Ric/Tele owners he

I have a new Ric 620/6 and a Squier Classic Vibe Custom (CVC) Tele. The first thing one would say is: how can you compare a Made in USA primo guitar like a Ric 620 with a MIC CVC Tele. Well the equalizer with regards to playability is that the Squier CVC has had the frets leveled and crowned along w...

Re: Best places to buy Ricks?

Guitar Center is not an authorized Rick dealer... This is no longer the case as they do carry them in their Platinum Room stores... Didn't know that GC had become an authorized Rick dealer again. I still think you can get a better deal on a new Rick from independents like "Pick of the Ricks&qu...

Re: Best places to buy Ricks?

Guitar Center is not an authorized Rick dealer. Sam Ash is, but in-store inventory is not great (they seem to stock more Rick basses). As far as price....Ash prices are no bargain. You will do much better at "Pick of the Ricks" pricewise and Chris is a dyed in the wool Rick lover(I can per...
