That is fantastic! Just by amazing coincidence, the one you happened to buy is the same one you had all those years ago. Just fantastic!

Re: Lets talk about horseys
Ya, I'd think they would be a good match, but at $600 for the Lollar HS, not one I'd be able to justify with my ears. The next time I want a HS pickup in a bass, I'm getting a RIHS from RIC and having it underwound to 8K. I think that will get me most of the way there. Interesting idea,Dane! Yeah! ...

Re: Lets talk about horseys
Well, then the tone you are getting is what I'm interested in, metal. My v63 used to get well past halfway down the road to that tone, but it didn't nail it like a real horsey, and it didn't have the Dane harness or cap... You have exactly what I'm considering for my 4003 right down to the stereo j...

Re: Lets talk about horseys
There is nothing like the tone you get from a vintage wound horsie, period. I like the unique growl of this type pup but unfortunately, your options are limited. The faux horsie (RIHS) is nothing like the original. it is wound hotter and lacks the grind of the original. You are exactly right -- tha...

Re: 4004 cheyenne modifications, please help!
Taran, You may know this already, but one thing to keep in mind is that if you do go with VVT or BVT, you will have to either drill a new hole or at least drill out the hole used by the pickup switch for the extra pot. The hole for the slector switch is not large enough for a pot shaft. Also, welcom...

Re: 4004 cheyenne modifications, please help!
You may want to try coil-splitting. That might give you some extra grind. Dane can definitely help you out with that. I will might very well be calling upon him myself next week to make me another of his excellent wiring harnesses Oh, Dane's username is aceonbass. He doesn't take long to respond to ...

Re: Stolen 4003 alert
It is possible the original owner recovered the bass, and then sold it on November 18 on Ebay. Let's hope this is the case. While it sucks to see a Rick get dismantled and its pieces pread all over Creation, it's even worse to have it done to stolen property. I guess the loss of Ricks keeps the mac...

Re: Horseshoe vs High Gain Bridge, Toaster vs High Gain Neck
As we seem to have similar taste in tone, I think I can help because I have an '86 4003, an SPC (maple fretboard) and a V63 with the C3 added. The V63 is my favorite of the three, but not by much. All three are all Rick, for sure, so you can't go wrong. But, the V63 has a little more glug and gurgle...

Yeah, and the fretboard has really nice grain patterns, too!aceonbass wrote:Nice flame in the maple. Usually only 4004Cii's get that kind of wood. Who did the truss rod cover?
