Re: 330 neck pickup very dark

I highly recommend installing a .0022uF cap across the outer lugs of the blend pot. That works as a bass cut/bass contour control so you can roll off bass to taste. A lower value will cut even more, so adjust the value to taste. When the pot is fully counter-clockwise, it will be just like stock.

Re: Swap 620 for 660, 650, or keep it?

There is another option if you are willing... My 620 is hands-down my favorite and sent every other solidbody guitar packing. I got it used and it felt amazing from the moment I first picked it up. I had been frustrated with a 360 I owned at the time by the small frets and narrow nut, so I was reall...

Re: opinions, please? swap hot and scatterwound toasters?

Well, I did it, and I'm very happy I did. I may still put in the .0047 cap on the 620/6, but I'll go as-is for now. The only issue is the foam rings for the hot toasters from the 620/12 were really compressed, and they don't want to expand enough to get my pickup height correct--annoying but fixable...

opinions, please? swap hot and scatterwound toasters?

I have a 1988 620/12 with hot toasters and a 2005 620/6 with scatterwounds. Because I can't help meddling, I keep entertaining the idea of swapping the pickups. The 12 gets a bit boomy in the middle and neck positions. Likewise, I wouldn't mind a little more beef in the bridge of the 6. I'm thinking...

Re: Mystery '66 335 Owner - Southside Johnny or Little Steve

If you want to know for sure, contact Andy Babiuk in Rochester, NY. http://www.andybabiuksfabgear.com Not only is he an excellent reference for any vintage gear, and a Rickenbacker dealer, but he is good friends with Little Steven and could most likely find out the answer for you from him directly. ...

"Blue Boy" from Jim Reeves and the Blue Boys

I have a Blue Boy Ric for sale and someone from another forum commented that his friend lives in Jim Reeves' old house and found photos of his band, the Blue Boys, posing with their matching blue Rickenbackers after their endorsement deal with Rickenbacker. I never realized that was where the name c...

Re: Will tailpiece change solve my problem?

Actually, stringing a Bigsby is easy, too, once you get used to it. There's a cool gadget called a String-ray that makes it even simpler. http://www.stringraytool.com Personally, I find the R easy enough on a 12'er without a capo if you remove the bridge cover, but the capo is helpful when feeding t...

Re: Will tailpiece change solve my problem?

At the risk of sounding harsh, don't blame the equipment: learn the proper technique. Insert ball end in slot, pull taut and capo around the 5th fret. Wind the string on the tuner until it is taut enough to remove the capo, tune to pitch, and you are done. As long as you are changing one string at a...

Re: Bass cut/contour control for neck humbucker works great

Well, after experimenting, I decided to go with new style (2011) hi gains in this guitar after all, just for versatility, and the bass contour mod works just as well with the new style hi gain neck pickup. Happy me!

Bass cut/contour control for neck humbucker works great!

I recently picked up a 2005 Blue Boy 620 with factory humbuckers and felt the neck pickup needed to be "opened up". It's not that the pickup is muddy, but it is just as responsive in the bass and lower mid frequencies as it is with trebles so it makes for a boomy bass--especially when comb...

Re: Love my Rics but its time for a Tele. Ric/Tele owners he

Don't worry about what you should like...just go with what you DO like. I've been around the block with too many different guitars. When I first got a 360, I couldn't get along with the neck shape. I was considering consigning it at a great music store that happened to have a Montezuma Brown 620VP f...
