Re: NGD 4003 Montezuma Amberglo

That's among the nicest Rics I've ever seen. If the mono output bugs you, Dane Wilder can make you a harness with Ric-O-Sound that will output through a single jack. I don't know if it would require any filing of the existing hole to fit, those stereo jacks are a tight fit in a 3/4-7/8" hole, b...

Re: Truss rod length

If it's twisted, you should be able to see it pretty clearly sighting down the neck from the headstock end. Look to see if the Nut (in the foreground) looks essentially parallel to last fret (in the background). Or look up "winding sticks", just a two short pieces of straight scrap wood, o...

Re: It's Been Eight Years

People are calling them "Dorito" pickups, works for me! I think they'd look cool as hell with chrome covers, but they sound great anyway. Salsa anyone?

Re: A question about truss rods

+1 on huge appreciation for Joey's bass notes, along with Paul Boyer's book, that pretty much covers the technical and aesthetic history of the bass. Maybe an update for V2 bridge is in order? (see how I did that, volunteering your time....)

Re: RIC-Made Treble PUP Bezels Available!

Whenever somebody mentions buying a Ric Boutique copy of the Treble bezel, I refer them to this thread so they can educate themselves a little. REALLY disappointing to see that a company who has been so agressive at protecting their own IP has no compunction ripping off the Original Treble Bezel. Lo...

Re: Why did the 4003 overtake the 4001?

My 78' Jetglo 4001 came strung with flats. The salesman gave me the little boilerplate lecture about roundwounds voiding the warranty...... and then proceeded to sell me a set of Roto 66, like EVERYBODY else who bought a Ric. I wanted to be Squire, not McCartney! Never had a lick of trouble with tha...

Re: Recommend nut to use on 4003 bass?

I've used both the stock Ric bakelite available through Pick of the Ricks, and a brass one by Axemasters. The bakelite one has the huge advantage of perfect factory string spacing and a traditional look. Brass looks cool, but doesn't make any real difference in tone, and it has to be polished period...

Re: Bubbling Finish Issues?

I'm curious to see what happens with the new AC bridge design, since the most common location for clearcoat bubbling seems to be right around the bridge. The castings on the bottom edges of my older bridge are definitely a little rough and sharp, hopefully they have cleaned that up on the new models.

Re: new bridge = new rod?

They mentioned that the new bridges will be available through dealers for $190. Kinda pricey, but ...... Rickenbacker. They're worth what folks will pay for them (it's not insulin we're talking about). When the AC was announced with the new bridge I recall people were moaning that it would take a l...

Re: new bridge = new rod?

The new bridge is official on the Ric Instagram feed, will be shipped on all new 4003. Haven't heard anything about the new rod except on the Al Cisneros. They mentioned that the new bridges will be available through dealers for $190. Kinda pricey, but ...... Rickenbacker.

Re: Anyone see anything like this

Maybe an inept attempt to counteract "negative neck angle" by infilling the route with epoxy? If so, it wouldn't work, that would need to be solid maple blocking. Any signs of the neck bending towards the bridge? The screws in the wiring route are truly mysterious.

Very nicely done, Dane. Retains the retro look, but allows for palm muting and easy intonation.

Re: Cleaning 4003W Binding?

Does all the rest of the binding have an amber oil tinge, or is it bright white? I don't think that's finish bubbling, haven't seen that on the walnut models. Looks more like some maybe some of the oil finish lapped onto the binding? I've never gotten a close look at a W model, but I assume they oil...

Re: RIC-Made Treble PUP Bezels Available!

What's the final word on this? As it stands, Ric looks like just another garden-variety IP thief, which is more than a little ironic after all those years of Hall litigating and bloviating about what a terrible thing that is done by others. Do I hear the sound of crickets on this one?

Re: Pickguards from the "Ric" Boutique

Or have Pickguardian make one, and have him bevel the pickguard edges while he's at it. I always found the sharp edge on the factory guards a little uncomfortable.
