Maybe, maybe not. Officially.
One vote for keeping dual rods here.

I fear change.

So what would you call what he's doing in that video?

He's definitely not picking daisies with it...

Re: Cleaning 4003W Binding?

I believe that's finish separating/bubbling, right?

My 4003's binding is covered with that stuff, mostly in the areas around the various dings it's suffered.

Re: Pickguards from the "Ric" Boutique

And I don't know why the difference matters to some people. One is smooth and cohesive with the body line of the lower edge of the bass, and the other one is not. Rickenbacker returned to the previous design in early 2014 for a reason. I've done several custom mods to Rickenbacker basses, ma...

Re: First attempt at a 4-2-5

Nice! That's the PU combo I've got on my (also Paul W) 4-2-5 convert.

Mine's an '07, necks a bit of a chonker, depth-wise, but I love the narrow spacing.

Re: "Playing" with pickups....

I got the mudbucker installed yesterday. The only mod to the body was to make the cavity just a little bigger. This was done on the bridge side of the whole. I'm liking the tone I'm getting now. I played it last night for about a half an hour. I've also put a mudbucker on my P-bass. One pickup and ...

Re: Joey's Bass Notes???

correct me if I am wrong but as I recall there were graphics and processes which had been painstakingly developed and refine, which were being lifted from the JBN site; without asking or noting the source. Might have been a couple of folks passing it off as their own as well. I think that would hav...

Re: Joey's Bass Notes???

Sorry for any inconvenience shutting down Joey's Bass Notes may have been. The reasons: The site was looking cheesy and outdated. I made that website when I barely knew how to make one. Now that I know better, I just haven't had the time. I've been spending more time over the past few years playing...

In that case, I find it even harder to believe no one pulled down a local archive.

Um...sorry, but a couple videos aren't an acceptable substitute for the comprehensive and annotated diagrams and photos concerning setup, wiring, and "how to spot a fake" that were neatly laid out for quick and easy reference on his site.

Re: Joey's Bass Notes???

I'm willing and able to host a mirror, I just need someone who has a local archive to reconstruct it from. The site was not being indexed by the wayback machine.

Re: New basses

I'm on the fence... I do kinda wish they'd put some lighter y-tuners on it, pull the guard, and call it a 4004. I don't want the classic 4001/4003 to 'go away' or be 'improved'. I like the carried forward idiosyncrasies and think they contribute to the sound and overall brand image of rickenbacker....

Re: Reproduction Pre-1974 Aluminum Tailpiece / Bridge

Something as massive as a 4001/3 tailpiece cast in brass would weigh at least a pound, and change the tone of the instrument. Brass is fine for the 4003S5 bridge inserts, and BadAss bridges because they're not that big, but I'm trying to keep my basses at 9lbs or less these days. I'm more than will...
