Re: OK Joey, spill the beans on the new 5er!

Based on the pic, it looks like this 5-string is based on a "4003" (larger tuners, white TRC). Interesting, as you would think it would have been easier to resurrect the 4004cii/5 just by adding a newly designed pickup that provided better coverage for the B and G strings. That being said,...

Re: Any plans for new 5-string Rics?

Did the original 4004cii/5 basses have a wider fingerboard, or was it the same as the four string 4004? If its the former, RIC was close to building a great 5 string. The downfall of those original 4004cii/5 basses was the use of pickups from the 2000 series basses. They simply weren't wide enough t...

Re: Vintage Horseshoe Surround Screws

The C64 used phillips screws on the surround. I do have an earlier 60`s Rickenbacker lapsteel and it also uses phillips screws. I`m sure I can find them online - just might take a bit of digging.

Vintage Horseshoe Surround Screws

The '68 4001 I purchased a while back is missing three of the horseshoe surround screws and I'd like to get similar replacements. The one remaining original screw is a slotted 3/8" with a round head. Does anyone know the "size"? It appears to be the same as the ones holding the TRC. T...

Re: 1968 4001

So here's the thing..... This pickup had already been modified by the time I bought this bass. The horseshoes were gone, pole magnets had been installed under the bobbin to produce a signal and the pickup was quite dirty. I am no electronics expert so I felt the best person to get this pickup back i...

Re: 1968 4001

I'm not too worried about having period correct horseshoes. In fact given the nature of them losing their magnetic charge in some cases, I'm more inclined to go for a new set!

Joseph - check out my thread in the Appraisals section to see what was under the bobbin. Crude but functional!

Re: 1968 4001

Its a January build, so its possible they were still using the old surrounds. There was definitely a difference in the finish under the surround that matched it perfectly so I have no reason to believe its not the original part. I have also asked Jason if he needs the dimensions of the hole in the s...

1968 4001

I was lucky enough to be able to locally purchase this early 1968 4001. The bridge pickup had the original baseplate and bobbin but no horseshoes - the pickup has been sent to Jason Lollar to rebuild. Aside from a missing plexi thumbrest (anyone know where to source one of these?), and a few missing...

Re: The Japan-only new limited 4003 with checker binding

When RIC was producing their "Colour of the year" finishes, we were told that these colours would never be produced again so "get ''em while they're hot". I guess that's gone out the window...

Re: So I sold my RM3261 to some guy named Getty ...

The story I heard (from a reputable Toronto source) was that much of Rush's old gear was donated to the Canadian Museum of Civilization as a tax right off. The double necks were part of this donation. Thats why on their recent recordings they had to rent Taurus pedals because their originals were go...
