Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
"Reunited, and it feels so good"...... :D For those here on RRF who don't know the story . . . our friend Woody was kind enough to sell LD389 back to me earlier this year. What a happy homecoming !! She is still strung with Ernie Ball 40-95 Cobalt Flats. Previously, she wore LaBella Low-Te...

Re: Which flatwounds for new 4003s?
I was looking for a little more natural brightness from my 4000, so this morning I strung her up with 40 - 95 Ernie Ball cobalt flatwounds. Everything that you have read about these strings is true: flatwound feel with roundwound tone. Previously, LD389 was strung with LaBella Low Tension flexible f...

Re: New Treble Pup Bezel?
Hi Dane,
Maybe not obvious from the attached picture, but I play a 4000, so neck pickup phase revearsal isn't a problem.
I did install 500k pots a 22 orange drop tone cap when I did the mod - sounds SO MUCH clearer than the originals !!

Re: New Treble Pup Bezel?
Although I admit that both real horseshoes and also the chrome cover for hi-gain pickups LOOK so damn good, I confess that I am one those players who just needs them to be out of my way. Today I installed a pickup bezel from Frank at tubeampology. Custom machined to fit the HB1 in my instrument. Per...

Re: The One That Left And Returned Home
Yes . . . sometimes we do get to play our wonderful instruments again. Because of our friend Woody's great kindness, I am once again enjoying LD389. She is a '72 4000 MG, three-piece neck through. I modded her with an HB1, 500k pots, hipshot tailpiece, and pickguardian back-painted guard. Woody inst...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
If our brother Woody is gonna post his pic with the 4000, maybe I should follow suit . . . This late 70's JG belonged to the music director of a band which employed me for almost ten years, and is the reason why I love the model 4000. Picture only fourteen years old !! You look very mature for a 14...

Re: Which flatwounds for new 4003s?
The '72 4000 i recently got ( ) came with a new set of Labella Low tension flatwounds,a relatively new offering from the company. I forget the exact gauge, but they're in the 40-100 ballpark. They are absolutely fabulous strings, supersmooth, slinky, with a perfect tension, and a great sound. ...

No worries . . . although Roger's last name is spelled "Rossmiesl" in the JH interview starting on page 9.bassduke49 wrote:Oops, yeah. Actually, I have it both ways in my book. I overlooked something there.
