Re: The Searchers Meet Tim Rice
Could it be that "Needles" is performed live, "Hearts" with the aid of playback? Can't hear any diversity from the recorded version of the latter. Watch the audience: More spontanious approval for the first, more of a "neutral" behaviour for the latter. What do you thi...

Re: running scared
Always a highlight of the show at the time, MP does a great vocal on Running Scarednick_allen wrote:Terrific! Very few singers can successfully cover Roy Orbison, but Mike P did a great job there.

Re: Favorite Era of The Searchers?
One error there I'm afraid, Love Potion Number Nine featured Tony Jackson on lead vocal[/quote]
Very true, the US hit was a reissue in 1965 of the 1963 recording off the first album featuring TJ as lead vocalist, but still leaves a fine body of work post Jackson to enjoy.

Re: Frank Allen interview
Hmmmm. Telling the same old stories using the same words that were in his book?.. Given that FA has written a couple of books the "stories" are in the public domain albeit to a limited audience. The journo has decided to focus on what she thinks the viewers will be interested in, and righ...

Re: When You Walk In The Room
Jackie is one of the most underrated artists in Rock History and she should be in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. She was the first female singer/songwriter of consequence (Carole King was mainly a songwriter in the early '60's, she didn't start performing until the end of the decade). Here is Jacki...

Re: Favorite Era of The Searchers?
What is your favorite era of The Searchers? My Favorite is the early stuff with Tony Jackson. After he left i think the group went downhill, though Bumble Bee is a favorite of mine Hi, its an interesting question and thought provoking. Given that for many years they are really a live band and indee...

Re: Rarity
Thanks for this one Roy haven't heard it in quite a while. A really lovely song with the Searchers at their harmonic best, a top version of I think a song originally done by the Drifters but covered by such diverse artists as Van Morrison and Nazarath

Re: When You Walk In The Room
When you walk in the room for me is the quintessential Searchers song with one of the great guitar riff's of any era. Its always the song that gets the best reaction at live shows and still amazes me it was only a No 4 in the UK. It would be up there in my top 10 songs of all time. I still enjoy Jac...

Thanks for putting this up Roy, one of my favourite tunes reminds me of being a kid in Aden in the early 60's and never heard this version.royclough wrote:Approx 1998

Re: RAW BUT GREAT
Hi DB,
Haven't heard this version of the Beatles Star Club so can't comment I'll try and get a copy as it sounds interesting.
Agree on the Synth point, it seems Spence has it so they use it but at least it is all live.
Cheers

Re: RAW BUT GREAT
Point is very vaild David and well put, The Searchers star club recordings were professionally recorded as you say. I agree with your pint David about the recording quality, what differs is the energy and sense of performance that comes screaming out of the Beatles Star Club recording. i recall Joh...

Re: Eddie Rothe leaving The Searchers?
It would be interesting if the Searchers were to get into the HOF; would John and Frank go if Mike were there? I'm inclined to think probably not but I'd like to hear Roy's take on the subject. I think they would attend something like this event, they may not talk much and it would be interesting w...
