Re: Byrds Live Set Up

In fact, one of McGuinn's two cabs in 1966 (e.g. the Yankee Stadium gig) was often a 1x15 single Showman.

Re: Lyric Imagery

From King Apathy III: "Freaks collecting stained glass rubies, Diligently on a string, Varying looks of frenzied madness, Slowing down their B.B. King." Line by line, we jump from one extreme to the next: freaks - diligently - madness - B.B. King. Equally, Byrds' lyrics that also appeal to...

Re: Eight Miles High 'Alternate' Video

They're miming, yet at the very beginning of the song, before coming in, McGuinn flicks his tone selector switch down to the clean bypass position! Having said that, this is the best overall instructional video on EMH that we're ever likely to see. On the Tonight Show of 24th July 1967, an appearanc...

Re: Why Didn't The Shadows Invade?

Cliff and The Shadows couldn't be part of the British Invasion of late 1964 and early 1965, because they were committed to appearing in the theatrical children's pantomime Aladdin at the London Palladium with the legendary wartime Liverpool comedian Arthur Askey ("Hello Playmates") and the...

The Guitar Player tab is exactly the 12-string tuning that I was referring to in my comment about The Byrdz on the tribute band thread. Paul Kantner plays "Somebody to Love" in dropped D capoed at the second fret on a 12-string to this day. I've always wondered whether David Crosby and Pau...

I saw The Byrdz at the Robin 2 in Bilston, West Midlands, UK, last night. The one-hour set list was impressive, they were tight together and they harmonised well. However, their characterisations and stage banter are a crude parody and I wouldn't send anyone to them for Byrd guitar lessons. Soundwis...

This is a real shame, which is compounded by the press release being inaccurate. Cass Elliot died of a heart attack on July 29, 1974 and John Phillips died of heart failure on March 18, 2001. In interviews, the middle-aged Denny always regretted not accepting Cass' marriage proposals years earlier.

If it's possible to apply the term "tribute band" back 40 years, The Blokes (who became The Rose Garden in early 1967) must count as just about the first. The Blokes/Rose Garden were clearly massive Byrds fans. If McGuinn, Crosby or Hillman were not around to give their approval, Gene Clar...

I've always thought it far-sighted, magnanimous and even risky of The Byrds to sing about South Wales, when they could have sung a crowd-pleaser about teenage angst instead. In a way, it was a back-handed compliment to the contemporaneous British groups for championing Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and...

Early Jam publicity shots show Bruce with an Ibanez copy of a 4001. Investors would need to satisfy themselves that this fingerboard didn't come from the Ibanez.

Did Clarence's white Tele become Roger McGuinn's white Tele in 1969 or so, or was that a different guitar?

On the film "Let's All Make Love in London", made in 1967, you see the Pink Floyd rehearsing. In a camera shot taken down the neck from the headstock of Roger Waters' RM1999, the warping is quite significant.
