'72 bridge issues...

Hey guys! It's been a while... Some of you that have been around here for a while might remember the JG '72 I got off evilbay years back for $650-ish. It was full of holes and routed for a Jazz pickup (ick!) and needed a refret. I've got it all done! Well, cosmetically, anyway. Playability is anothe...

Actually, I just picked up an Aguilar DB728/DB659 combo - I don't have much seat time on it, but so far - holy ****!

Re: Updating Bass wah wah

Yeah, I have the 105Q - the white one. Love it. Some of the older ones (like mine) don't have the trimpot inside to adjust the delay when you turn it off, but I modded mine to get rid of the delay.

Re: WIW? NOS Wavy Grover with Ferrules and screws

You can't really de-swage them, so this really only works if they weren't swaged very well in the first place and are already kinda loose. I re-swaged mine with a 1lb hammer and pointed punch.

Re: WIW? NOS Wavy Grover with Ferrules and screws

Actually, the old grovers are "swedged" together and the grey pot metal doesn't take well to being reassembled. My tech, a rick expert (really) told me that, even if you get them back together, they become unstable so I'm not hoping to make a set of them. Nah, not true, given the fact tha...

Re: Post-metal + RIC 4003 = ???

I think Ric basses sound great for almost any music style.
We play doom metal, loud as h*ll and tuned down - WAY down.

One of my 4001's is tuned BEAD - I use a 0.125" B string. Four is more!

Gerry, any chance you could talk your friend into making another one?

I have the EXACT same problem with my '72.

Re: Glue for fretboard

Any good medium-viscosity CA will work. By "good" I mean the stuff you find at hobby shops that the model airplane guys use, not the generic "superglue" you find at the grocery store. I've been using "ZAP" CA for 6 or 8 years to fix separated fretboards - my dad has bee...

Re: Oh those silly band mates.

You guys are speaking my language! My band's three different tunings: DGCF, CGCF, BEAD I've never really messed around with the Ric-O-Sound much, though, I just plug into vintage SVT's turned up to about noon for that rip-your-face-off Ampeg snarl. All my basses have RI horseshoes, too, and I never ...

That one looks like it's been recapped already - the multisection cans in every SVT I've ever seen are silver ones.

1. Supposedly the late 70's heads had 220V primary taps, but all of my heads are early 70's so I can't verify this. Switching to 220V would require disassembly of the amp and swapping the primaries. 2. Price is dependant on condition and luck (right place at the right time). The cost of a head and c...
