Re: Cap Bypass Mod

Ricosoundman: How does bypassing the cap effect your stereo setup? dminer: I notice you're in Atlanta. Is there anybody around here you would recommend for a fret leveling or refret? I've used a guy down in Jackson named Tom Dodson but not for any Rick work. I've gotten a quote from him and he seem...

Re: Cap Bypass Mod

Good on ya!!! I bypased the cap on both my 76 4001 and my 66 4005....HUGE DIFFERENCE and I would never go back!!!! Maybe todays more modern amps can do the cap version justice but I love the "more BASS" version without the cap. I still contend that the cap was responsible for more pup repl...

Re: I would like to thank Dane Wilder...

Any one else notice that the ebay MG s8 has 4 of the smaller style tuners...I've never seen that on a standard 4003s8. I kinda like it though...nice mod and the headstock doesn't look as clunky as my regular 4003s8...hmmm.

Re: Countersinking a bridge: my experience

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c386/dminer/2006_0218xmas090031.jpg The previous owner of my 87 4003s8 also had the bridge sunk...I'm sure to try and compensate for the bowing neck/high action. Maybe it temporarely cured the problem but the action was always high from the day I got it. Finially, ...

Re: Knobs/Pots too close together on my 4001.. Fake?

Late to the game here but, I beg to differ with the replaced guard consenses....Welcome aboard....I believe that is the original pickguard...compare it to my all original 76 guard below and the spacing looks the same to me, although the angle of your pic is different.... Mine has a crack on the neck...

Re: What strings and picks do you like to use with your Ric?

On my 66 4005 fg, I use TI jazz flats (longscale of course) On my 76 4001 mg, I use DA chromes or Ghs flats On my 87 4003s8 fg, I use TI Jazz flats and a set of piccolo strings for the octave strings (can't remember which brand, but I got them from Just Strings) I use the lowest tension set possible...

Re: 4003S 8

I too, have never heard or seen a fakenbaker s8 so it's probably legit...one thing to check out though, at least a few of these beasts have neck bowing issues (mine included) I had to make new, slightly larger truss rods for mine to get the neck near flat again. If everything on the bass is correct ...

Re: 1971 4001

It hasn't been mentioned here yet, but you might want to do the cap bypass mod...other's here will probably chime in. Do a search of the forum to see what i'm talking about and any good ric teck should be able to do it along with the setup if that's what you decide. :)

Re: Fortune 3301

I missed the pics but from what I've read here it sounded like a 330 style bass. I sure was hoping that something like this was what we we're "Getting ready to flip out over" from Rickenbacker...I'm still getting ready to flip out but after a couple of years of waiting I don't think anythi...

Re: Thickness of the 4005 body top?

HEY PAUL!!! My 66 without binding is a delicate 3/16" and actually just a hair under that, probably 5/32" if I held something besides my Stanley tape measure up to it. The 3/8" thickness on the 4005's WB seems huge to me. My Kustom K200 is 1/4" and my 66 eb2 is probably 3/16"...
