12-String Tuners

Hi guys. I've been away for a while. I was wondering if anyone knows when Rickenbacker changed tuner types on 12-string guitars. I've got an '80 620/12 that came with nickel Kluson tuners, just like the 60's guitars. From my experience with 6-string models, I thought that the nickel Kluson tuners on...

Re: Arlington (Texas) Vintage Guitar Show, Oct 16-17th

I cruised the show yesterday for about 2 hours. I had a nice conversation with Jim Elyea and finally meet Kenny Howes in person. I looked at a lot of Ricks but ended up buying a 2010 Epiphone Casino Elitist in a natural finish. It's the sixth Casino in my collection. I'll probably do a few Lennon mo...

Re: Lots of new folks from Texas, eh?

Gee, I guess I missed this thread. I've been hanging out at BGC mostly these days. Me and Ricks are still in Dallas.

Re: Dallas Guitar Festival April 16, 17, 18/Vox mods

I will be at the Dallas Guitar Show on Saturday afternoon. I have a friend with a booth who is selling several of my non-Rick guitars. Just thinning the herd a bit...

Re: Donovan RM 1997 VB

I recently read somewhere that Donovan borrowed the RM 1997, because he needed it for a TV broadcast. He didn't own an electric guitar but he needed one to mime a performance (possibly 'Sunshine Superman'). My memory may be faulty, but that's what I recall. It's hard to believe that he wouldn't have...

Re: George and his Gretsches

I had the same problems with my vintage Gretsch. I bought a gorgeous '66 Tennessean (about $750) at a guitar show in the early 1990's. Although I rarely played it (mainly because my playing style often caused the floating bridge to move around) and always polished it up before putting it back in its...

Re: Trivial Pursuit Beatles edition

Sorta reminds me of a contest at an all-inclusive family vacation in St. Kitts in the 1990's. The contest involved Beatle knowlege like in a game like 'Name That Tune'. While my family assumed that I would be the best at guessing Beatle tunes, the steel drum band mangled the songs so severely that t...

Re: "Jangly" Chord Technique

It's the first thing most guitarists notice when I'm playing a jangly song. I use my pinkie finger on the bottom string to make each chord ring.

Re: Lennon Caption on Sullivan?

Dean: The Rick played by Ron Nasty is either a 615 or an RM1995. It must be an original 60's model because the video was shot in 1977 or 1978, long before an reissues were available. Oddly enough, when I was in college a favorite club band featured an identical Rick. They were called The Explosives ...

I'm glad I got the chance to visit Manny's and the other nearby music shops when I was in NYC in Feb, 2008.

Re: My Holy Grail found! (RoMo content...)

Sticking an XLR jack on the front of the guitar is pretty dumb. I wonder why they didn't put it on the back or the side edge.

Re: How long would it take a guitar stand to damage finish?

I don't put newer Ricks or Gibsons in any of my stands anymore. I have found that all of my Ricks made since 1988 react with stands. None of my Gibsons are vintage, and they all do it too. The first big problem I ever had involved having my brand new '89 1997VB react with a stand. Last year I took t...

Re: My Holy Grail found! (RoMo content...)

I'm not the world's leading Townshend expert, but I think I've seen photos of his guitar with what appears to be an XLR connector on the lower horn (not a toggle switch). There was speculation at one time that this modification may have been made for recording purposes. I might be wrong on this, but...
