Re: Which 4001 would be available in Germany in 1965-69?
Aha! I was wondering if England would be the conduit through which the Rics were funneled to the rest of Europe in those days!

Re: 4001S or modded 4000?
What's the benefit to a bolt on for a Ric?
I can see that for a Fender, where replacement necks can be had readily.
But where do you get a replacement neck for a bolt on Ric and not break the bank?

Re: 4001S or modded 4000?
I don;t know nuttin about nuttin but am I seeing a 74 and a 78 year pots? So that means the original electronics were modded? So maybe the neck pup was added in 78? Like I said I am in no position to make any statements about this bass but it would scare me off as a buyer because that swarthy maple ...

Re: 4003 neck varnish blemishes
Glad it could easily be fixed!
Mine started bubbling around the frets last year, iirc. 2016 model. But I think this is a normal phenomenon. Can’t see it unless you look really close.

Re: 4003fl with shark fins
So does that devalue the bass in any way, since it’s not a factory FL?

Oh yeah. If you brighten the screen you can just make out the fret lines.

Re: Why so quiet around here?
All the questions have now been answered. The illustrious forum has left no question about Ric basses unanswered! Just kidding. Maybe Rics are starting to wane in popularity. I think the forum was more jumping years ago, iirc. I didn’t come along til 2016, and it seemed to be slowing down back then....

Re: 4003 harness question
Old harness is back in. Its totally noiseless like it was before.
So I will keep the old harness in. Besides, I like the simpler v/t/toggle control setup better.
Praise the Lord it is back to sounding great again. Church rehearsal tomorrow night!!!

Re: 4003 harness question
Update: Musta been something wasn't sitting right. I took the pick guard off and jiggled all the wires to be sure the joints were strong (everything tight), then put it back together and now it is way noiseless except it buzzes at about 3 ft off the floor, like in the zone when its hanging on the st...

Re: 4003 harness question
All my other basses don’t do it. So that’s why I was thinking it was just this bass. And it did not do it with the old harness.

Re: 4003 harness question
Thanks! Glad I got it wired up right. Tone is terrific! Only issue of note I am having is this: Background: When hands are touching strings there is no noise/interference, just signal, which is great. When hands are not touching strings I hear some interference. This is what normally happens on all ...
