Re: Thinking of Modifying Your Gretsch 5120
Kinda late to the party, but........ I dig the 5120 and Samick in Korea is doing fine work. So far this thing gets every tone I need so I will hold off for a bit on mods....

Re: My new G5120
Thanks guys! The only mod I may do is a compensated bridge. As it is now, it gets every tone I need! It is a pleasure to pick up and play. Samick Korea has got it DOWN!! I put Chrome 12s on it, may go to 11 next set. Oh, and I always had trouble getting good harmonics on the Dot Studio, with this on...

Re: Aria Les Paul project
took a bit of time away from the project.. Our house got approved for a mod so we'll be able to keep it!!! YAY!! I also traded an amp for a 2006 Epiphone Les Paul Custom (the tuxedo model) that truly smokes!! BUT, the fellow that I traded with plugged in a Gretsch G5120 (think Brian Setzer) to the c...

Re: Potting my neck pup
Well done! It (the pickguard) is now quiet as a church mouse. Seems kinda weird, but I hear more mids now? That's ok cuz I like mids on bass, but for some reason, not on guitar..
The bottom line is, it cost $45 bucks to get rid of the microphonic pickguard.

Re: Aria Les Paul project
Ok pickups are bought. Pearly Gates in the bridge, and SH-2 in the neck. I always have the JB bridge pup if "needed".
I should have it ready in a couple weeks as most.

Good stuff! I totally agree on recording clean, dry, straight, however you say it. You then add AND subtract effects as JB said.

Re: VHT Special 6
Here is a tidbit from TapeOP. Check em out. Small-to-medium tweed amps (Champ, Princeton, Deluxe, some Harvards and some Tremoluxes) use cathode-biased, or "self-biasing" output stages, while the larger tweeds are fixed-biased." "Cathode-biased output stages offer a spongier enve...

Re: Heaviest Flats for Five-String 35" Scale
The Chromes are now .132 and have no other choice. They are a tad heavy for me, so I have had to find strings with a 128-130 B string. ALl of the heavy B strings I have tried feel too floppy.
