Re: Ric 12 string tech in north NJ
It was around $150 which includes several followups as the setup shifts around, which is nice. That's the problem I had with other techs, the setup is great when you get it back but then a few days later the wood and parts may have continued to shift so it's out again.

Sealer coat only texture? On 4001C64S
I hear that the 4001C64S has a sealer coat only finish to replicate McCartney's bass after it was sanded down. Can anyone comment on how the sealer coat only finish feels compared to usual smooth conversion varnish or lacquer finishes?

Re: Ric 12 string tech in north NJ
I ended up taking my 12 string to Acquire Guitars in Butler, NJ and he did an excellent job with it.

70s vs modern 4003 bridge pickup?
Besides the winging value (8K for 70s vs 12K for modern), are there any other ways the bridge pickups on a modern 4003 differ from a 70s one? Would a modern bridge pickup dewound to the right value sound like a 70s one?

NGD: 360/12 vintage spec (lefty!)
After several months of waiting, this arrived from Larry Davis. 360-12 ngd.jpg As a longtime Beatles fan, and someone interested in a diverse guitar arsenal for songwriting and recording, getting a Rickenbacker 360/12 seemed a natural move. However, lefty models with vintage specs (21 fret board, ol...

Strings for 360/12 (now that TI flats are no more)
Now that Pick of the Ricks is closing down, what are the best flatwound strings for a vintage sound from a 360/12 with toaster pickups? My 360/12 will ship out to me in March. I was originally planning on stringing with the PotR TI flats custom set, but it's no longer available on their site and I'm...

Re: Vintage lefty Ric question
Interestingly, I’m restoring one of the only lefty 365 models ever made in the 60s (from 1966). The neck only had side markers on the one side (bass side while playing it). Therefore we can assume the fretboard and neck was assigned to the lefty instrument and then finalized. Gibson must have finis...

Vintage lefty Ric question
Question re: old lefty Rics built with right-handed necks (upside down headstock, inlays): For models that had bound necks, did the binding on both sides of the neck have dot markers for fret positions? As opposed to the binding on the side facing down being blank with no markers. For example vintag...

I've heard great things about them but am hoping for something shorter than a 4 hour round trip drive.

Re: Gibson J185-12 string recommendations
Thanks for the suggestions.
@jps: How has the durability of the D'Addario strings been for you? When I was younger I used mainly D'Addario but broke strings pretty frequently. But then those were cheaper guitars that probably did not have great quality of the nut or saddle.

Gibson J185-12 string recommendations
I will soon be the proud owner of a new Gibson J185-12 and need advice on what strings to get for it. This will be my first ever 12 string. Here are my key criteria: - Uncoated. I never found coated strings that I liked the sound or feel of. - Good for vocal accompaniment. I am pretty much always si...

Re: Hi Gains On A 330-12
What role does fret number have in achieving a vintage style tone?jdogric12 wrote:Yep, Tom's right.
If you want the 60's sound, there are things more important than toaster vs hi gain: compression, 21 vs24 frets, amp, playing style, etc.
