I actually like the look of the fatter pickguard...to me it looks more like a vintage style....

Thanks Evan....I believe that capacitor not being in the 4000 SHOULD make a change in sound.....I was not aware of that.

Wow....one of the best discussions I have read in a long time. I love the idea of tuning down and then capoing !! I would have never thought of that. But that actually will move the pickups closer to the neck, for an overall warmer sound I would think. Perhaps that idea is what some people might be ...

sound of a 4000 bass......

If you had a stock 4001 or 4003, and using the toggle switch selected only the bridge pickup, would that have the same sound that the 4000 bass has ? If not, why ?

Upon closer inspection of the picture, I realize that my pole pieces are flat, and much bigger. I can also say that this pickup has a killer sound. Even better than my stock 1980 4001S

Pete....I must say that you guys sound great !! We have Yes tribute bands around my neck of the woods, but none sound anywhere as good as you guys do !
