Well, regarding my...er, pot situation*: I think I'll keep it like it is. The guitar sounds great and is definitely different-sounding than my other two Rics. BTW, the instrument I've been working with is a stripped-down '65 360 O.S., with its original toaster at the neck. Pics, etc. to come. *I fee...

OK, having digested that (which all makes perfect sense), let me ask this: How would a 1M pot affect the tone of the HB-1? I have heard that it brightens up the sound, although some say it adds hiss. By the way, thank you folks for all of your help; the world of hopping up and tricking out guitars i...

The saga continiues. I realized one thing I did wrong that was pulling some of the power away from the pickup--duh--I was using a 250k pot. So, having switched to a 500k pot, the HB-1, I'm happy to report, does indeed sound like a classic humbucker. Very snarly, like Rick Nielsen. Now: There is stil...

Comments: I don't know about the 325 on that track, IMHO; the whole record sounds like Casinos to me, and I thought Lennon had pretty much put the Rics under the bed at that point. Who knows? Also, regarding capos, I have been a big fan of the capo since I started playing, and as we know, Mr. Lennon...

Revolver songs - a tip
Hey folks-- After years of making my fingers bend all sorts of uncomfortable directions, I've realized that a great way to play "She Said She Said" and "Dr. Robert" (both of which are in weird keys, Bb and Bmaj, respectively) is -- duh -- with a capo! Capo at the 3rd fret and pla...

Groovy! Thanks Gregson! Now, having made those changes, the pickup does have a bit more gain BUT, as Don mentioned above, should I, in fact, put a .0047 cap on, to crisp it out a bit? (i.e. should the HB-1 be inherently darker-sounding than a Hi-Gain?) As I also said above, I've found that the .0047...

OK, here's the thing, fellas: There is a good chance that I only have one coil wired up, as I'm doing this myself and haven't been able to find the right info anywhere (and haven't bought a good ohm meter yet, but plan on it). The wires coming off of the HB-1 pickup are: black, red, green, white, an...

Thanks Peter. I think I'll start a new thread sometime soon about this; I personally wouldn't pick up a C-series instrument (I hadn't even got around to the V-series) as I couldn't afford it. I'm glad JH is only doing 1000 of 'em, and yes, if you're like me and aren't as picky as some, pick up a use...

Hello all! This is my first post here. Has everyone forgotten about RIC's non-vintage models? There's your player guitar! I have owned many Ricks, and the one which I keep going back to is an '89 330 RD/WHT which I have beat the hell out of and which now plays like a vintage guitar. Who needs a new ...
