Re: Pre-1984 truss rod question

this opinion comes from owning three 1981 instruments with the old-style hairpin truss rods and playing them on stage for decades: 4002WG bass, 320JG guitar, and 360-12OS FG ckbd guitar. Sometimes you can only do so much. The wood can shrink, give a little at the stress points, and all other sort o...

Kenny.

What are the neck's particular persnicketies?

‘60s 12-string, so I’m trying to go gentle.

Pre-1984 truss rod question

Ok. So. I’m familiar with the truss rod system in the subject line, and how to straighten the neck on models from this timeframe. Very familiar. But what are some tips for when a neck is being particularly persnickety, without having to get some kind of contraption that resembles a medieval rack? Al...

Re: Tom's use of a Rick double-neck for American Girl video

This might be old news to most Tom Petty fans but I just came across a video of the Heartbreakers playing "American Girl" on the show "Fridays". It looks like Tom is using a Jetglo 362/12. I know the song was originally recorded without a 12 string, but by the time this clip was...

He's posing with it on the back cover of Hard Promises, and on the inner sleeve of Full Moon Fever, for what it's worth.

He may have bought it at Norm's, because there's a shot of him (with Norm Harris, I believe) and that guitar.

I don’t think the piezo had been invented or widely used in Hendrix’ lifetime.

Re: Gene Clark

Two thoughts: 1. A few of the rock star types I’ve known who are known for playing Ricks seem to have *a* pickup or setting they use, and that’s it. Weird to me, as I switch around to different settings for different songs. So this may be less uncommon than we think. (Sorry for the double negative.)...
