Re: Question about flat wounds

No issues with mine... but I have only been running them for the past two years and have only had two sets on them. I'm using DAdderios.

What brand are you running?

is the ball/eyelet seated fully into the tail piece>?

is the dead sound consistent there with both pickups?

Re: Lets talk about horseys

My '74 4001 has it closer to the neck... '75 would make sense.

Re: Lets talk about horseys

My old Lollar HS dropped right in. Don't know about the new version but I would think it would. Why make a replacement part and not have it replace? The web site says it's a drop in: https://www.lollarguitars.com/lollar-bass-pickups/horseshoe-bass They are on FaceBook... you can always drop them a l...

Korladis wrote: Sun May 14, 2023 7:30 pm How does the sound compare to a highgain?
I would describe the difference between the HG and HS as the HS is a warmer, fuzzier sound, almost microphonic. I would say the HG has a harsher sound to it. I have not played one of the RIHS so would need to defer to someone else on that.

Re: Horseshoe WITHOUT the Cap

I have a push/pull on my '74 4001, with a Lollar law suite Horseshoe on it, to disable and enable the cap. It has about the same effect, tone wise, as bypassing the cap does on a Highgain. It is a nice tool to have in the toolkit! I like the sound from both cap and non-cap... just depends on what so...

Re: 4003 factory setup specs card - 2008

That sounds like something Chris would do. I'm still dubious as it being Ric based, as they seem to mark everything with logos and what not. As to the .011 7th fret distance, it's not what I would call tremendous (less than 1/64 of an inch). The neck gets flexed more than that with a little vigorous...

Interesting, where/what is that from? It looks like some thoughtful bass tech or luthier notation.

Re: Cleaning tuners - 1977 4001

There are nickel (semi-chrome) polishes and clothes out there. You might want to give one of them a shot (be careful not to get any on your finish). Or if it really bothers you, you could get them replated. Personally I look at it like my yellowing binding, it's just part of playing a cool bass!!! H...
