P.S. Greg, the 6C4 was not invented for audio use and such tubes often have mechanical resonances in the audio band. 12AX7, 12AT7, 12AY7, 12DW7 and 12AY7 are other tubes made for general radio receiving tube duty that consumer audio manufacturers just grabbed and used. Audiophiles learned to spot th...

I bought my 6C4 tubes from a dealer that sells the better NOS types. A lot of 6C4 tubes are microphonic, etc. I'm not really in a hurry to get rid of them as they are RCA tubes and the next best to the Mullards. A lot of the NOS tubes left on the market are culls from previous cherry picking operati...

Ed Roman bought up the available ORIGINAL Steinberger parts supply from the factory, so he can rape you on the price if needin authentic original parts. If Ed has what you want at the price you want to pay, then he can be OK to deal with. I bought my Tacoma acoustic from him, and he is Tacoma's bigg...

Fenders get banged up because when you finally find a good one, you enjoy playing the hell out of it and it becomes a favorite. Funny how the same factory can turn out a hunk of coal and a diamond in the same day. If you ever see a Fender that isn't banged up, you need be be very cautious as to why ...

The company that my father once worked for had a night club, so he got to hear lots of bands that came through the club. His personal favorite sounding amps were the Ampegs. Like Bob said, Ampegs were once big with the Rolling Stones. You would think more guitarists would be using them. I guess Ampe...

Right, David. It costs almost no money.....less than Celestion wants for a single speaker these days.....and it comes with a Celestion anyway! The cheap Super 8 speaker isn't the best, but it sounds very good within its low power range. The worst part is the hum from the AC heater supply. Some moder...

A Kustom Tube 12 sounds as good or better than an old Champ amp and will set you back $105 for a new one, plus S&H from Music123 and others. It sounds really big for such a little amp. Don't use the Chinese tube that comes in some of them, unless you like heavy metal grating didtortion. A JJ or ...

"Ricky, Don't Be a Hero" or some name to that effect always made me want to turn off the radio when it came on. "Ricky, Go Get You A** Shot Off" would have been a more interesting theme. And another song from that generation that was played to death........."Fighting soldier...

I just happen to own an excellent pair of Celestion Vintage 8 speakers that would work nicely in an acoustic guitar amp. They were the latest production before that model was dropped. Bought them new in 2003. Used very little in a 12 watt amp. The magnets are huge and the sound is tight. 8 ohm imped...

Bob, more guitarists use Marshalls because Marshall is so cheap that they once used one resistor to handle the screen grids on 4 output tubes. The money saved on build quality lets them give away amps to rock stars to make you think Marshall is the greatest. The new AVT amps have PCB pots with plast...

Peter: It's not that the "Blue" isn't a good speaker, as many regard it as the best, but that a guitar speaker such as it is a bit of a distortion generator and doesn't need exotic new speaker materials and shouldn't be expensive to manufacture. Eminence charges a fraction of the cost for ...

Bob is right about 10" speakers. You just use more to get equivalent surface area as the bigger speakers, and they are more "high fidelity" than larger speakers. What people forget about guitar speakers is that the entire cone is not used at high frequencies. That is the reason for th...

Well, I'm going to start saving a few Euros for some PHY-HP speakers made in France. Cast brass frames, huge alnico magnets, time aligned two-way co-axial design without need for any crossover network, silk insulated silver wiring, 30Hz-30kHz frequency response with 96dB efficiency, etc. Unfortunate...

Buy your son a RIC 650D. It can do Rammstein, and anything else. Looks a lot better than the BC Rich, and he might let you borrow it.

Bestrafe mich.
