Cerrem, are you saying the 60's 4001 toasters were wound to 12k? I had always heard they were the 7.4k windings, and it wasn't until the 80's toasters that they were wound to 12k. Ben - Having had the high gain on my 4003 and putting a 7.4k on in its place, I found the tone less aggressive though st...

Jps - are you talking about the reissues or the origionals? Do you know the reissue winding resistance? "The RI horseshoe pickup uses Alnico magnet slugs in the bobbin in place of pole pieces, not the rubberized magnets under the bobbin." Hate to sound anal, but in the hinderland of SW Mic...

Here is a pic of a 1973 bridge pup - measures 8.05k and obviously has a larger magnet then the current high gains. Looks like a ferrite type magnet, not the plastic ones used now. Anyone have input on this? I don't mean to be a pain, but the changes the bridge pickups went through is fascinating. ht...

Thanks Jared. Nice work! That would make a regular bridge pup look like a horseshoe, which is what I believe RIC is doing with the new reissue horseshoesif I understand all this correctly. They are not using magnets for shoes, but are using the under coil magnet like the high gains. Anyone here know...

I mostly use the cap in (which is why I wired it so the switch is down when the cap is in) but I also altered my bridge pup (unwound to 7.8k) so there is a tonal difference from a high gain anyway. Its all personal tone preferences anyway!

Jared - being fairly new here I'm not up on what you make - are the shoes you make magnetized or decorative? Someone mentioned aluminium and that means decoration. Just want to be clear on this...

I unwound my high gain bridge pup to about 7.8k (value determined from an old post I'd found) and see that it could be converted easily to horseshoe magnets but where to get them?! I contacted one gentleman who had them made and had been selling them but he emailed back he was not doing that now bec...

John was talking about the way I originally had it drawn - the way the diagram is now is the way the factory is wiring it. Shouldn't pop.

Thanks for the welcome and glad I could help out with the drawing. It is really an easy changeover so don't be shy about attempting. You can wire it either cap in or cap out when the knob is down according to preference. Just change the wire going to the end to the other end of the new switch. I hav...

Here is a crude drawing but it gets the point across:
