Re: "The" RM 1999
Has anyone noticed the dark line accross the bottom of the front edge of the tailpiece on this photo? At first I thought it must be the reflection of his coat in the chrome but it stops before the edge below the thumbrest screw so its not that. Has the tail been replaced as a temporary repair or so...

Re: The Pure McCartney Tribute 2012 and the Rickenbacker...
That is Tim Christensen & The Damn Crystals, a Dutch(?) group. Looks to me that the bass is either a genuine (and nicely kept/restored) '60s 4001S/RM1999, or a newer bass made to look like one. The tailpiece is a three-screw and looks a bit "frosty" like the plated aluminum ones did. ...

Re: Something very special is making its way through the fac
The Pickguardian "vintage conversion" is all wrong. It has rounded corners, that "double hump" at the bottom, and 1" spacing pickup cutout. A good "vintage conversion" should have the elegant original shape, with screw holes that line up with recent-issue 4003 gua...

Bridge caps were stock up until the mid 80s. There somewhere are posts by Ted Staberow covering the history of the pickups. Used to be a sticky but I can't find them now.

All that bass lacked was checkered binding.KOLAD wrote:Wow nice bass, who made that pickguard and whats the model of it called (the shape, and the material?)

Brian, that was Jeff Scott's 4003 from when the new inlays came out.

I can do it fairly. It helps to have thick thumbs and how much pick you have exposed. Watch his hand closely.

Re: lefty 4001S refin
Well, after almost 20 years with my pseudo-MMT paintjob I have turned my 4001S over to a local guy to refinish it in white. Here's a progress pic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/iamthebassman/a7b06e3c-6eda-4fe8-ad83-69a64d905745_zps0b045681.jpg I can't believe how clean the fretboard is, it...
