Re: Will the new Shaller S locks fit stock 4003 buttons?
I've been dealing with this issue in the last few days. The Schaller website and many online folks proclaim that the new Schaller strap locks are totally backward compatible. I beg to differ. The strap locks ARE. They'll work on your older Schaller posts. But that's not true in reverse. The older st...

Re: 4001S or modded 4000?
As Mr. Teeder indicated, you can reset the neck. Good for people like me who are crazy about adjusting down the action.

Re: 4001S or modded 4000?
This one screams modded 4000 to me, what Dirk said. One of the fundamental things I like about Rick basses is the resonance of the neck thru body, but the way this one is priced indicates that they consider the set neck a feature, not a bug. Having had to deal with some issues with body-thru necks,...

Re: The hated Tuxedo rocks!
The artist was given full artistic liberty within strict boundaries and unyielding guidance! (How's that for some good legalese?) Actually, I wanted some magical kind of images and she delivered nicely. But there was a Generation Gap 101 moment when I commented on some Peter Maxx imagry and she did ...

Re: The hated Tuxedo rocks!
Sorry for the thread resurrection. But I was looking for this photo after a PC change and knew it was here. That's my sorta-rare two speaker version Versatone. Thus the two mics on the cab. It sounds amazing. I leave it at a local recording studio for them to carefully use. Based on the notion that ...

Re: I'm after a 4003 Fireglo with a small neck profile. Advi
I’ve never understood why people think Jazz bass necks are so slim. At the nut they are, but as you go up the neck? Not really. I’ve played hundreds of Jazzes over the past 4 decades and just don’t think of them as slim at all, but I will add I don’t spend much time on the first few frets, I play a...

Re: I'm after a 4003 Fireglo with a small neck profile. Advi
I was waiting for the more august and revered members to pipe in before commenting. I was given small hands which triggered a years-long quest to find the best small profile necks. My conclusions from a limited sample size were, thinest to slighly fatter: Shadow, Tuxedo/Blackstar and then others. . ...

Re: Treble Bezel by Tubeampology
Wow. Sorry to hear. I recently had a great experience with him on an order for a bezel for a CS bass. He custom made it using that new-fangled 3D additive printing technology. He even made a second version below cost when the first was not a perfect fit, even though that was my fault on the measurem...

Re: new RIC horseshoe vs. 4003s bridge sound?
A couple of weeks ago, I A/B-d my CS bass with a repro horseshoe installed versus a Tuxedo loaded with higains. The CS sounded a little better. A little. But I quickly came to realize that all of the improvement I heard was thanks to the neck pickup. That said --- what's the hurry? Why not try out y...

Re: What's the Fascination with Old Instruments?
Not a totally new phenomenon. Back in 1967 or 68 the keyboard player in my band asked me to come over and check out a guitar. "My uncle in the Bronx gave me this. I'll sell it to you for $50." Not exactly cheap back then for a high school student but within reach if I mowed more lawns or s...

Re: The hated Tuxedo rocks!
Thanks everyone. Behind the makeup, it's a really nice playing bass. One of the best, for me. Doc Scott is right - no RicoSound. Just as well for me because I get confuzzled enough with one cord. Playing through the Versatone: I normally just use it with my Guild. In the past I just DI'd any Rick wh...
