Re: What's the future hold for the Rickenbacker company?
Although he doesn’t have to, I appreciate Mr. Hall’s participation here and his clarifications to some of the misbegotten notions expressed. I for one enjoy both web sites (I comment more here because it is a little chattier than the corporate site). I am looking forward to the corporate upgrades! ...

Re: Led Zeppelin - Thieves or genius?
There's another one where a blues song has a striking (meaning damn near exact) resemblance to portions of Whole Lotta Love. I'd have to go back and look it up but it is either a Muddy Waters song or a Willie Dixon song (or both). I think they went a bit past the "paying homage" to their h...

Re: Your Top 10 Male Vocalists
Funny, we were talking about this last night during a lull in our practice session. Musical disclaimer - this is the list for right now, subject to immediate change depending on next thing listened too. ;) 1. John Lennon 2. Paul McCartney 3. Mick Jagger 4. Tom Petty 5. Phil Mogg (of UFO and fantasti...

Re: ACTUAL Paul and George argument. / sessions
I don't know if it was intended that way but this was a laugh out loud moment when I read it.Zurdo wrote:that's what I mean, depression and bubblegum equal = Beatle music.
In the book, "Can't Buy Me Love", the author talks about how cheerfully the Beatles sang "Misery".

Re: My model bass
I think I'd go this way. Hollow, short scale, checkerboard, maybe twin toasters, crushed pearl if fretted, no dots or anything on the fingerboard if fretless, stereo-wired. This would never work, I'd be completely unable to decide between Rootbeerburst and Jetglo. Then again, if I sold my car and w...

Re: Anyone interested about "Torpedoes: Deluxe Edition"?
If it has even half of the stuff you've mentioned then I'm buying it. That's the era of the Heartbreakers where I first became a big fan of theirs and it's still one of my favorites by them.

Re: Vintage color photographs
It is nice to be reminded that across the years as well as across the oceans, we humans are not so different after all. Change the clothing around and those faces could have been photographed anywhere. Kind of reassuring.

[quote="gibsonlp Long Long Long is a wonderful song.[/quote] I can't comment on the song itself but the recording is unlistenable for me. I don't know why but it's like the mixing was designed to keep you from hearing the lyrics and it seems to be noticeably different in sound level from the ot...

Re: ACTUAL Paul and George argument. / sessions
I think you could make an argument either for or against Paul having the most talent but I thinnk it is much clearer that he was the most consistent in terms of quality of output. His "terrible" work is still head and shoulders above the "terrible" work of the other three. As for...

Re: What makes for a timeless LP/CD?
The first one that came to mind was Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. It feels timeless as opposed to a lot of the music from the 70s that feels "dated" and did within a year or two of being released. On the other hand, I'm listening right now to the second disk from the Muddy Waters Chess Box S...

Re: short scale Rickenbacker basses
Harley, there is one on ebay now for $864. Its modified, bridge, tuners, and pickguard. Its also in England, don't know how well that would work if there was a problem. I saw that one and the price is in the range I would have expected but the location is causing a bit of a concern. Then again, too ...

Re: short scale Rickenbacker basses
OK ACE, thanks to all for the input, I'm done dreaming and wishing. Might go for an old Rick and buckle down and do the long scale, it would open a big door. Or could do a FrankenRick, my other guitar guy builds beautiful guitars and basses. Or play what I have better. Bye Well what ever you do, do...

Re: short scale Rickenbacker basses
Like Dane, I'm 5'7" (or 5'8" depending on whether I'm being ground down or pulled apart at work). I have two regular scale basses and one short scale. I do find it a little bit easier to get around complicated parts on the short scale and there are times where it is a little easier learnin...

Finally, I have one I can post (a picture that is, I've had the bass for a long time).
