Binding - 4001 Rick Bass

The white binding on my 1972 Jet Black bass with checkerboard binding has dried out and small areas have chipped away. Is there a recommended replacement product, and if so, will it affect the vintage value? It is in great shape and all original. I am in southern California. Any recommended techs? T...

Binding Dry & Cracked

I have a '72 4001, Jet Black with white checkerboard. All original and all parts in place. The binding has yellowed (OK for all original). However, the binding has become very brittle, and a 1" piece has cracks off. I saved the 1" piece that came off, but it is obvious that this will keep ...

Thanks for the information regarding the serial number. It is a black 4001 with white checkerboard, and in just about mint condition. As soon as I figure out how to reduce the size of the photos, I will submit them. Gary

Serial Number

I have a Rick bass that I have owned since the early '70's It was manufactured in Sept. '72, according to the company information. However, there is lettering on the top of the plate. I do not know the meaning of this. Can anyone tell me more about my bass? Serial # LI 915.
