Re: Drumroll......my new 1964 Rose Morris 1999!!!

We had the bass repaired slightly on a whim in 2002, to fix the crack in the neck and the repair guy also chose to replace the pickup and scratch plate. Good god, stay away from that "luthier." Who takes that kind of liberty on any guitar in for repair? I'd be like dropping off your Les P...

Re: Opinion's on Mesa Boogie walkabout scout 1x15

Henry, I use a Mesa Walkabout 15 with my 4001 and really dig the tone I get from it. It's got a very straight-forward EQ section that I can appreciate. It can sometimes struggle with the seriously high-volume stuff I'm sometimes involved with, but most of the time it's perfect for what I do. If I wa...

Purple silks mean Pyramids. For punk you'll want rounds.

Hmm, must be a typo because the short scale set is 40-100. As far as I know long scale Pyramid flats are always 40-55-75-105. Might wanna email Don about that.

Josh, they're 40-55-75-105. Note the "round-core" sticker that you won't see on older sets of Pyramids:

Re: Pyramid String Reviews?

Pyramid has a new formula for their strings that are slightly lower tension and use round cores like TIs and original '60s flats. These new strings are also much fresher as they just started making them fairly recently. Most stores won't have the new formula in stock as a single dealer had an exclus...

Re: Route 66 Guitars Rickenbacker Gallery

Rickenbacker has seen fit to have items featuring my images pulled from zazzle.com, where I have featured items containing images to which I hold copyright. Until I can clear this matter up I won't be posting anything further to this, or any other Rickenbacker related forum. John Hall and I have ha...

Re: Heel block – V63 vs. C64

The C64 is more accurate to the majority of the originals, in this regard. I have photos of RM1999s that are both ways. Here's a few original examples: http://i38.tinypic.com/tamw01.jpg http://i36.tinypic.com/2929x0i.jpg note this last one is more like the V63. http://i35.tinypic.com/2q0k9i9.jpg

The Gibson came to me in a trade. Not a bad bass, really. A bit neck heavy but fun to play.

Re: Ric Guitar & Bass content: Abbey Road Medley Video

A one man tribute band ! I don't know about that. I'm not putting on a suit and standing in front of a bunch of people, so I wouldn't call it a tribute, but I do like figuring out Beatles songs when I have a chance. I usually just listen to the song a bunch of times before I record the video, and I...

From playing Paul basslines over the years, I can't help but be melodic on most of my original material as well.

Whatever, stick to vintage. You know what's up.

In reference to the OP: so those are both C63 inlays? George's were grey and not sparkly at all, so the poured ones would be more accurate.

Re: Finally - our first recording

The bass sounds good, but if it was me I'd put a low-pass filter it to take off some of the distracting pick noise and snappy string sounds. I do this all the time to get a smoother, rounder sound, especially when working with roundwound strings. That's what flatwound strings are for. Which ...
