Re: THe Black Metal Box Amp

Scott_s,you are the MAN!!! Thanks for the reference pix and the wiring diagram and schematic! I'll get my amp tech right on making me a modern version, with a 12" alnico speaker, instead of a field-coil speaker...I can use the hot lead to the field coil to drive a pilot light...that should give i...

Re: '76 4001 Walnut - dockside photo shoot

Autumnglo is a satin finish,Walnut is buffed to a high gloss...my 1976 4001FL is Autumnglo, but since the back of the neck is polished smooth from playing,I suppose that it's Walnut there...

Re: can you PLEK a Rickenbacker? Have you done it>? results?

I work at a Gibson dealership, and they have a PLEK machine at their Nashville plant, and probably have them in Memphis and Bozeman,Montana,as well...and since they make Tobias basses, they probably have one in Rogers,Arkansas...when your instruments are cranked out as fast as possible by people who m...

Re: For a first lap steel...opinions?

Marc,keep your eyes peeled for a 1950's or 1960's Rickenbacker Model 100,or the Electro EH-1 or EH-3 (legs) equivalent...1&1/4"wide,type three horseshoe magnet pickup,bakelite nut and saddle,maple body for long sustain,cheaper than a pre-war Model 59,or post-war Model NS,which would be my s...

Re: Is this real???

A few months ago, I paid $400.00 for a 1960 lap steel, with the (possible) intention of having the HS pickup rebuilt properly for my 4001S. However, once I plugged it in and played it, I knew it would remain intact. These old Ric lap steels are a gem if you find a good one. I did just that with a s...

Re: Fretless conversion

Paul is right...I usually charge $200 to pull the frets, fill the slots with white or black celluloid .020 binding (depending on wheather the 'board is light or dark),level sand and buff the fingerboard (although I'd charge a bit more for a finished 'board, like on a RIC)...I've done this MANY times,a...
