That is some seriously gorgeous grain!
I've heard they sometimes painted incredibly nice grain just to meet orders. One has to wonder how many more of these gems are out there hidden under a layer of paint...

Well now, that's an interesting question. What the good doctor said is true, from an electronics point of view. A linear pot varies the resistance linearly from end to end as you turn the shaft.
