I had enough trouble getting all of my household stuff to New Zealand, glad I didn't try to bring any cars. 'Course, driving on the "wrong" side of the road made the decision somewhat easier...

I've heard they sometimes painted incredibly nice grain just to meet orders. One has to wonder how many more of these gems are out there hidden under a layer of paint...

Well now, that's an interesting question. What the good doctor said is true, from an electronics point of view. A linear pot varies the resistance linearly from end to end as you turn the shaft.
