Re: another 360-12 neck angle topic
If it's playable, adjustable, and seems stable you should be ok, but unless it was a really great deal I'd return it. Well it was $3000, which is a good bit less than others available online, but not like a steal or anything. It's playable but I don't want to put money into a refret and then have t...

another 360-12 neck angle topic
Hi all -- been ages since I posted here! I'm having a Rick resurgence, and just bought a 1965 360-12. It was described as having an "excellent neck set" and while the guitar does play with reasonably low action, I'm concerned about what this neck angle looks like. My other Ricks all have f...

Re: Why did the Vintage Forum disappear?
Agreed. I hope the moderators will consider restoring the Vintage forum. I have no interest in modern Ricks (no judgement on anyone else, to each his own), and I doubt I will spend the time sorting through everything if it's all in one big forum. These are topics of separate interest, and vintage gu...

Why did the Vintage Forum disappear?
Sure, it was a little slow going, but I'm sure not going to be checking in here daily. This seems like a funny change to make.

I noticed that marked as Sold. Wow, you're one lucky fellow. I've love some description of what you think of it, what it sounds like etc. That's one of the most unique guitars ever built.

Re: 1957 ric combo-refin. blue sparkle
A note regarding Paul Barth--at the San Rafael (CA) vintage show the other day, I saw a guitar that was identical to a '60's Barth, except that it had a Magnatone nameplate on it--as Barth worked with Magnatone before he started Barth Guitars, this makes sense--but this thing was a Barth guitar in ...

Re: 1957 ric combo-refin. blue sparkle
Ray's guitar is a neat one. He let me come over and play it a couple years ago. One thing that occurred to me more recently: I've come across a few Bartell guitars in a very similar finish. That was Paul Barth's guitar company in the mid 60s, which is very similar to the Magnatone line of that era. ...

Re: SHOP NOTES: COMBO 600
Those are 30s or 40s Rick knobs, not original to this guitar.

I've heard that the best modern replacement for that oil is... windex!

Winfield's low bridgeplate can sometimes give you just enough extra room to avoid needing the difficult neck set:

Email Deke Dickerson. He knows about Boyds. I'm pretty sure he even has one NOS in a box!

Re: Paul Barth had a guitar company?
Oh didn't realize that this thread was going on here. I've been trying to pin down the story of Paul Barth for a while. He did a lot more at Rickenbacker in the 50s than he's given credit for. The german carve is Rossmeisl, but many other features are Barth designs. Like dual truss rods and zero fre...
