Re: bakelite with one side cut away
More picts are posted of the cutaway. I thought bakelite was molded and not something you shaped or carved but this looks very clean although hard to see all black very clearly and with detail.

Now that I have bakelite fever, I see this odd Rickenbacher on the bay. Just posting since I have not seen this body type yet.

Re: first year model b help
Just an update for to show some progress on my bakelite. Phil Petillo helped me with the missing plates; he made them out of brass and nickel plated them all. He gave me options such as aging the new ones and leaving the old ones with original plating, versus what I got. We also talked about screwin...

Did you happen to see my Bakelite in there? Phil is making the missing plates for me. Can't wait to see it.drumbob wrote:When I was in luthier Phil Petillo's shop a few weeks ago, His son David was putting a petrified mastodon nut on Steve Van Zandt's Rick 12. I have pictures of it.

Re: first year model b help
Just found another close serial number with plates that are also glued on. Good to know that some were not screwed on. On ebay now.

Re: first year model b help
OK here is another photo. I will go with Rob's view that it is B 642. I thought that I needed to have a C stamp on the neck. Funny thing about photography is that it still looks like a C with the naked eye. Making the plates would be so much easier with some other plates as a template. Anyone in NJ ...

Re: first year model b help
Its all news to me. 95% of what I know of this instrument is from the fine folks who have contacted me from this forum. I will clean up the headstock and take another photo when I can. It looks like it is marked B C( laying on its back) 43. The glued on front plates made me also think it was very ea...

Re: first year model b help
Thanks for the reply, The "C" appears to be stamped incorrectly and in the photo that looks like some dirt above it that makes it look like a "6". But its good to know that some bakelites come with just a B serial number; I learn more and more about these everyday. I am going to ...

Re: first year model b help
The last photo was just to try and find other models that may have cover plates not screwed down. I also notice my neck ends with the frets running completely across the neck, most others I have seen have the last frets not reaching the treble side. I put up other photos if anyone can help. http://w...

first year model b help
Good day all, I have a B model that is missing some of the stainless covers for the body cavities. The first question is regarding attaching the covers. It looks like the covers close to the neck may have been glued down and not screwed on to the body; has anyone seen this before? The one cover I ha...
