Re: 1964 Rickenbacker "Rose-Morris" 1993
I don't believe the tailpiece is a Winfield 12 hole. This one is angled, then straightens out for about 3-4 mm parallel to the nut near the high E strings. The Winfield is not authentic in this regard and is just one long angle. My 6-string 1964 with trapeze looks exactly like this one (without the ...

Re: 330/12 Intonation problem
One of my 12-strings is set up with flatwound strings from all different manufacturers. Haven't found one complete set of flatwounds yet that I like (or trust putting on my guitar). I do like the Rick compressed rounds though, particularly the older versions. They seem to intonate well on my vintage...

Re: 330/12 Intonation problem
In the 60's, Rickenbacker used 6-saddle bridges on their 12-strings, but they modified one saddle (the D string) to eliminate intonation issues by making a zig-zag cut in it so that it acted like 2 saddles. With this saddle designed the way it was, I'm able to get near perfect intonation on my two v...

Re: Rics in your dreams
Are you sure it was a guitar neck you were holding?johnallg wrote:I've had one Rick dream I remember. I'm getting ready to go onstage and the neck on my 4003MG goes to rubber.... Amazing, 'cause later in life I always win in my dreams. Not like life.....

Re: My new July '66 335
It arrived today. Simply stunning! There are a couple small little nicks here and there, but very small. Only 12 serial numbers away from my '66 12-string of the same year. Very resonant, low action guitar, long-pole toasters, 3-piece top. Very nice!

Re: My new July '66 335
Yes, this is a 1966. I had him go over the entire guitar for me on the phone. There is no fretwear at all. Zero, zilch. No worn lacquer. No scratches on the neck. There is one small mark on the back of the guitar, if you look very close, and that's it. Pretty incredible for a 48 year old instrument....

Re: My new July '66 335
Direct from a dealer on gbase. I paid $4250, but in this condition, I think it was worth it. Apparently owned by an older African American lady who never played it much if at all.

My new July '66 335
Well I bit the bullet on this July 1966 335 and paid in full. Should arrive next week. I'm a sucker for extremely clean fireglo's, especially the slightly darker bursts, with 3-piece tops. http://www.isatellite.info/images/335/335-1.png http://www.isatellite.info/images/335/335-2.png http://www.isat...

You are right about nailing the burst from photos Paul. Each monitor renders photos differently. It's nearly impossible without computer-based color matching.

Re: Neck Reset - 66 12-string
LOL. Yes, sorry I'm so anal. I hate that I am so detail-oriented at times, but it's helped me advance in my career. My work requires me to be that way. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to have you work on my guitars in the future, Paul. Hopefully my criticism came across as truly constructive, ...

Re: Neck Reset - 66 12-string
Someone messaged me that this thread was being resurrected and asked me to comment on how things went with this restoration (good/bad). I think it's important to be very clear when you own a guitar of this vintage that you consider if you absolutely need to refinish it or not. Knowing what I know no...
