If the post diameter is correct, I'd go for it.
Save the originals.

Re: Bronson Melody King - tuners
I had one of those with the matching amp that was made by Valco. I loved both. http://www.well.com/~wellvis/steels/Ricks/RickBronson52.JPG It's identical to the BD-6. http://s140.photobucket.com/albums/r39/rnshatz/Rickenbacker/?action=view¤t=eae0.jpg 3/side strip Kluson tuners with metal b...

Re: help identifying this steel
If it works and really looks that good, it's worth at least $800 without an original case.

Re: BD6 identification help?
The pot code on this Model B confirms that the pot was made in 1951 or maybe 1961, even though most pots had 7 digit codes beginning in 1961. EIA codes as we now know them didn't appear until after WW2, as far as I know. What nails this as early 50s is the knobs. By the mid to late 50s Rickenbacker ...

Re: BD6 identification help?
Mike, Spectacular and very interesting and unusual example of a great instrument. 1. What's spectacular? The rarity and condition. You hardly ever see BD steels, especially in pristine condition. 2. What's interesting? Few postwar BDs and for that matter did not have string though bodies. Most had a ...

Re: can anyone identify the year and value of my steel?
The "value" of anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay. There is currently an identical instrument on Ebay for a starting bid of $595. I don't think any knowledgeable buyer would pay quite that much. Yours looks to be in nice shape. However, the Model 100 series is not consid...

Re: Just when I thought I had seen it all..........
No, I didn't.
I'm planning to move to another city and might need to downsize my collection.
It certainly was tempting, though.

That shop used to have irregular business hours.
Check to see when it's open before you go there.

Re: 1937 lap steel on-line sighting
Pretty good price for a player quality guitar. If you buy it with that intent, replace the tuners. Those buttons are very fragile and a whole set is worth around $300. I like mine quite a bit, but this model is criticized by some players because of reflections of light making it hard to see the fret...
