Had me singing along. Nicely done.

Re: "The Bells of Rhymney", Byrds cover from Studio Z
Don't take it personally. Even the best of tribute bands have had a little difficulty nailing this one. Crosby's high harmony line is really up there in the stratosphere. He reaches A above middle C. Unless a singer has a pretty well developed falsetto, the whole song, particularly the ending chord,...

Re: "The Bells of Rhymney", Byrds cover from Studio Z
This is a deceptively tough song to cover. And I haven't had the courage to do any more with it myself than just sit on the sofa and go through the chord changes, or sit behind my drum kit and play along with the recording. Nice try.

Re: Problems with my Jangle Box JB2
So I called up Steve Lasko today. He advised me to send the unit in and they'd look it over. We'll see what happens next.

Re: Song to learn
Over the past year, I've been getting my finger picking chops back up. All that work paid off when I took third in the Kansas State Fiddling & Picking Championship finger style guitar contest on August 23. So now there's a CD that has been in the works for many months. It will feature some chimi...

Re: Alternate tunings
Shubb does make a partial capo. It covers three strings. On a 12 string guitar, I think a partial capo is the way to go. Saves a lot of time messing around on stage between numbers.

Re: Alternate tunings
I went down to the Kerrville (TX) Folk Festival a couple of summers ago, and got turned on to partial capos. The one I bought covers three strings. Turn it one way placed at the second fret, and you get EBEABE (like DADGAD two frets higher), or EAEAC#E turned 'round the other way. Nice thing about p...

Problems with my Jangle Box JB2
I've been noticing a change in the unit I have. Used to be that I got a great jangle and sustain something approaching McGuinn's sound on his 1991 release "Back From Rio." But lately, say in the last six or eight months or maybe longer, I've noticed that as I increase the attack the pedal ...

Re: From Studio Z Dixie--"Set You Free This Time"
Another nice recording. The guitar solo substitution for the original harmonica rather caught me off guard. Nice twist. I liked it. And tastefully done, too.

Re: Name The Guitarists
I only recognized one with any certainty. And that was George Harrison playing Lennon's 325. I suspect I saw Keef and probably Eric Clapton. But of those last two, I could be very much mistaken.

Agreed.JakeK wrote:IMHO, Leslies are good with 6-strings, but not so much with 12-strings. The fast setting kinda drowns out the octaves, which is what a 12-string is all about.

Re: My Back Pages
Never did care for the settings on the Leslie. I think a slower rotation would have been better. Nice idea, no cigar.
