Birth of the Silver Reissue Case

Like others here, I was an avid reader of the alt.guitar.rickenbacker newsgroup before this forum started up. It was an exciting development, all of this new (to me) information coming together for the first time. While cleaning house, I found a printout of the following discussion from March 1998 a...

Re: 4003 vibration problem

The A string causes a vibration on the bridge which can be heard thru speakers until I touch the the string behind the saddle, then it stops... ...Any ideas? Other than shoving foam back there? In the meantime waiting for Hipshot to get their brass/chrome bridge back in production... I had a new ba...

Re: FireGlo or Amber FireGlo ?

I always thought RIC should have tried Amber Mapleglo while they were at it. I think it would go well on a brand new 4005.

Re: Horseshoe WITHOUT the Cap

Has any Rick bassist ever run this configuration? Not sure if this is what you're asking, but I think the 4001 V63 was without cap, and 4001 C64 was with. They used reissue horseshoes, not counting the first few V63s, which apparently shipped with real ones. I used to own a V63, and the RIHS sounde...

Re: Fretless Ric bass questions.

Listening to fretless Rics on you tube (Chris Brubeck and one other Jazz player) I would have to say they sound more like an upright bass than any other fretless bass. Has anyone here ever played or heard a Fender fretless Acoustic/Electric Precision? It's pretty unique: medium thin hollow body fla...

Very nice - congrats! I am glad to see that the fretboards are finished again. Your 620 is one reason why.

Re: Worth the wait?

...we are all on Rickenbacker time.... Yup. I ordered a 4004Cii bass in 2006 or 2007. There was nothing special about my order, but it was placed shortly before the factory put all 4004 production on hold. I think they were transitioning to CNC manufacturing for that model. I didn't carefully track...

Re: Setting Hi Gain pickup heights

Is there a standard reference measurement that's used on 4003 basses in setting pickup heights? I've looked online, but haven't been able to find one... The question stands. This would be good to know for a variety of reasons. As far as I know, Rickenbacker hasn't published this information the way...

Re: Can I buy a P-Bass?

...So, am I being unfaithful to my Rickenbacker if I purchase a Fender to have as a companion to my Ric?... Having two basses that are fairly different from each other might bring out contrasts, and might help you to appreciate the features of both, features you might not notice otherwise. A good k...

I might have seen your FG in that livestream you did, seems like half a year ago now. Nice bass. I hope you do some more of those.

Re: V68 (ish)

Right, but I didn't think yours was a standard 4003. I now see the little sticker on the original pickguard.

Anyway, I imagine yours is one of very few basses with push/pull connected to a reissue horseshoe. Sounds like a fun bass. Congrats!

...does the ground get soldered or can you re-use what is already there from the the previous tailpiece? What a wife! That must have been a Very Merry Christmas. For this project, my wife took the pics and did the soldering, so that’s the step that we didn’t much document. Some soldering is necessa...
