Re: Roll Call !!

I still stop by 3-4 times a week to see what's going on. Sadly, the answer is usually "not much".

Re: Help me identify this guitar

A little more info -- according to the first link below, the Starstreams didn't go into production until "late 1964", which seems consistent with the hypothesis that your July, 1964 guitar is a prototype. The second link below notes further that Barth's earlier "Artist Series" de...

Re: Help me identify this guitar

That's an extremely cool guitar. I can't shed much light on its origins, but based on what I've read on-line, Barth built the "Artist Series" guitars for Magnatone in his own shop from between 1958 and 1960, and was then hired in 1964 to design the Starstream series which were built in Mag...

Re: Destroyed bass restoration

It's not the concept of the "modification" that bothers me, it's that it was done with such a complete lack of skill and foresight. I couldn't screw up a route that badly if I tried and the most complicated woodworking I ever did was build a birdhouse. The original mods really are astonis...

Re: Pickguard Swapping?

The pickguards look similar on a casual glance but the shapes aren't identical (especially the uppers). Pickguardian has templates for both, and if you compare them you'll see the differences. http://www.pickguardian.com/options/templates/ Tony at Pickguardian will make you one that fits your guitar...

Re: New entry in the forum. Which vintage: 625, 345 or 1997?

I've never played any 600 series model, but I have read that some of them--maybe all--at least the modern ones, have more width at the nut. If that is the case with vintage (and hopefully someone can help) ... The 650 and 660 have the wider neck, but the 620 neck is the same width as those on the 3...

Re: '75 430 guitar

If you do a search for "430" on the site you'll turn up a number of threads discussing this model. They're cool guitars ... I've had mine since the mid-1980s, and while it's been supplanted as my main player by my 620 I keep it in my office to play when the mood strikes. I've modded mine a...

Cool! Thanks for posting. According to the linked review Michael Stipe was in the crowd but, sadly, didn't join Peter, Mike and Bill onstage.

Terrible news for everyone on the board, and I'm sure many times more so for those who knew him personally. My condolences to them and to his family.

Re: New Owner

I'm not by any means trying to discourage you from getting an AC15, but if cost is a concern after your recent guitar-buying binge you may want to also consider the Vox modelling amps -- they do remarkably good impersonations of a bunch of cool amps at a small fraction of the cost of the real thing....

Re: question about 360 WB necks

Am I remembering correctly that the 360 neck is narrower than the 330? Nope -- 330 and 360 necks are the same width (as is the 620). The 650 and 660 are the ones with the wider necks. And if so did that apply to the 360 wb? I am 95% sure that the 360 WB has the same neck as a regular 360. If you're...

Re: Want my Baby in Black

The black pickguard is the easiest part - Pickguardian will take care of all your needs. His prices are reasonable and his work is first-rate. Finding a black truss rod cover will be tougher and costlier, but if all you care about is the tailpiece and guards PoTR can take care of the one and Pickgua...
