Estimated Prophet - Grateful Dead - Phil Lesh - Ric 4004Ci

Here's another one with the Cheyenne. This time neck pickup only, played w/ a pick, roundwounds. GK 800RB direct out. I love this bassline for having a simple dub feel, yet complex intermingling with the guitar melodies. And it's fun to play!

Haha, we have a parallel call and response going on here and TB...

Nope, nickel rounds, but palm muting and the humbuckers gets me that flatwound sound. But I prefer to have the roundwounds on there for when I need to get angry

Nobody Told Me - John Lennon, Tony Levin - 4004Ci

Sup RRF! I recently acquired a dream bass, a '94 Ric 4004Ci and it has inspired my to make some more cover videos. Disclaimer, I am doing this next few videos as my character St. Snake from my original band The Gold Web (shameless plug here: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheGoldWeb ) The first instal...

Re: Series wiring for a 4003?

Thanks for the info. I do not have firsthand experience with this mod on a jazz, but I know that I don't like both pu's on full on a jazz and have read that wiring them in series gives a much louder, fatter, and deeper sound, more reminiscent of a P-bass. That sounds appealing to me. If it had anywh...

Series wiring for a 4003?

I have heard lots of great things about Jazz basses wired up in series, and based on what I have read, it sounds like it just might be for me and my 4003; I have always had a little bit of a problem with the scoop and flabbiness of the middle position of my Ric. I have searched the forums here, but ...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

My band Bad City recently got to play on the Kiss Kruise, so I figured I'd share a few nautical Ric shots! Re: Wiring for 3 HB-1s

The upper horn looks far more Manne-like than Rick-like, to me, anyway. Very nice, Jake. 8) I have never seen Manne Guitars before, cool stuff! I like the whiskey barrel bass. If no one is opposed, I wouldn't mind keeping you all updated here. I always appreciate input and I am sure I will have man...

Re: Wiring for 3 HB-1s

Cool, thanks for the support guys. I feel a little bad having a full thread devoted to this build here being that it isn't really Ric-related, so if anyone wants to follow the progress, PM me and I'll give you the link.

Re: Wiring for 3 HB-1s

You can see the top body wing borrows pretty unashamedly from the Ric design. Materials as well, I am using Walnut for the wings and just glued up some hard Maple for the neck. (Even though the similarities to a Ric bass are not blatant, this design does owe a lot to Rickenbacker, thus I feel the ne...

Re: Wiring for 3 HB-1s

That's definitely something to think about, although I tend to only need more blatant changes in tone. Being that I play in a rock band with a fairly aggressive tone, subtle shift in tone aren't easy to notice. I also like having the ability to change quick at the flick of a switch.

Re: Wiring for 3 HB-1s

Sorry, I didn't mean to bring anything non-Ric related, I wasn't sure if there was any special info. on the HB-1's in particular. Thanks for clearing it up!

Wiring for 3 HB-1s

I am in the process of building my 2nd bass guitar, the design of which borrows a lot of Rickenbacker measurements (scale length, angles, thickness, etc), but is quite a departure in shape. When complete, I would love to install 3 gold Ric humbuckers, a la the 4004LK, but with a different control la...

Re: 4003 neck reshape

Thanks for the advice, I may hold off. I have already taken some steel wool to the back of the neck to dull the finish a little, but it didn't really help the stickiness, I will try the Naptha. I would feel pretty bad taking the finish completely off the neck as it is Montezuma Brown, but again, thi...
