Re: D'Addario XL Half-Round strings?

I too used half rounds in the late 70’s on my 4001. These strings always draw mixed reactions but I really like them. I’ve come back to them recently on my current 4003s and love the tone. I use the Dadarrios because I believe they are pure nickel and the GHS are a nickel iron alloy. The D’Addarios ...

McCartney Used Tapewounds?

Never seen this photo before but unless I miss my guess it looks like Paul was using tapewounds on the Rickenbacker during the Abbey Road sessions. Of course he used em on the Hofner during Let It Be but never saw them on the Rick.

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

Hope this link works....... nevermind

Gigged my '89 4003s for the first time in a long time last Saturday night. sounded great!

Apparently not. But if you check out Gardner Ale House on Facebook, go to their videos and look up Sturdy Moss. A little work, I know but there is Ric content :D

Re: "To sell or not to sell..."

Best of luck. Those are three beautiful basses. If I may be the first to offer a more affordable and utilitarian suggestion, I picked up a used Fender Aerodyne Jazz last year and it is my new fave. Really impressive range of tones available due to the p/j pickup configuration and the black with bind...

Re: Rick bass LOVE!!!

I love this video! I stumbled across it awhile ago and his love of his Rickenbacker and music in general is infectious! Also to see this great funky player using and singing the praises of a Rick shows the versatility of the bass that we all know is there.

Re: McCartney - strings on Rain?

OK, if no one is gonna jump in then I’ll venture my best guess. Since McCartney received the bass in ‘65 and The Beatles we notorious for changing strings only we necessary, I say they were whatever stock strings Rickenbacker was using at the time. Based on photos I’ve seen it looks like by the time...

Re: Juststrings.com branded strings

Ok...strung up my 4003s with the strings today. They are very nice. I like them a lot. I’m not really a round wound fan but these sound great. Not too harsh and very balanced. It’s the first time I’ve gone out of my way to match the factory guages and I really think it makes a difference. It seems l...

Re: Juststrings.com branded strings

Thanks for the info. I’m looking forward to giving them a go this weekend at rehearsal. At about $20 for a set, this is a great way to get set of strings in the elusive stock RIC guages. I’ll give my .02 cents once I’ve given them a while to break in..

Juststrings.com branded strings

I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with Juststrings.com own brand of nickel plated round wounds? I just got an email that their strings in single gauges are on sale. Sorry if this sounds like I’m promoting them which I’m not (although they’ve always been great whenever I’ve ordered from them...

Yeah Jeff, I really like the Bag Ends. They fit well in the mix and while a little heavy, they're built like a tank. Someday I may go down the neo speaker/modern cab road but for now this rig is getting the job done with room to spare.

Re: What kind of bass amp do you use with your Rickenbacker?

Hey, jdogric12, I'm currently using a PF500 head with a pair of Bag End S15s. The head is a newer revision and it's been trouble free for over six months of use. I love the tone. (sorry for the prominent f*nder content....my Ric is lurking in the background) In fact, I love the Ampeg so much I'd buy...

Re: How important are string guages?

Thanks for the responses guys. After posting I got caught up in the holiday madness and have only now checked back. Jeff, I like your point about the extra mass in a flatwound and the E string may be a little bit too much. I do like Chromes and have them on my P bass. I also have a spare set of GHS ...

How important are string guages?

Well, I guess I'm about to find out. As we know, RIC does not currently offer a flatwound string. So, just ordered GHS Precision Flats, single strings, from juststrings, com in 105,75,55,45 gauges. I really like these strings and currently have a light guage set on my Ric. I'm curious if this custom ...

Re: New Bass Day!

Very nice! My first Ric was a '78 Mapleglo 4001. Bought it new in the summer of '78 just after graduating from high school. I loved that bass. The neck was thin and fast. Enjoy your latest addition.
