Re: 1,000,001th time... How long to wait?

My new 660/12 was delivered yesterday. The case didn't feel particularly cold (just a little cool), but I didn't open it (better safe than sorry). Six hours later, the metal trim on the case STILL felt noticeably cool to the touch---after a couple days in unheated trucks the whole thing was probably...

Re: 30" speaker in a Ric amp?

Good Lord. I thought the "30 inch speaker" reference in the RIckenbacker book was a mistake. You mean they really did make cabinets with 30 inch speakers? Amazing! What a thing to have. Are there pictures anywhere?

Re: "Once in a Lifetime" Deals

Okay, here's the one I just didn't think I could let get away. This isn't a case of "an instrument at an amazingly low price" but rather, a case of "one like this may never come along again": http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3129/2294830267_59cb84856f.jpg?v=0 It's a 2002 340/6 with...

I must have it too. I just bought my second and third this year (third and fourth overall).

"Once in a Lifetime" Deals

Like many people (many of you, probably), I like to keep an eye on the market for certain kinds of gear, including Rickenbacker guitars. If you follow any market closely, sooner or later you come across a really outstanding deal on something, or some really rare or unusual item, that is probably unl...

Re: Acoustic Control Corporation - yay?

I've got several Acoustic amps and I LOVE them. The 140 is a good little head. I have a 150, which is the guitar version---the only difference is that the 150 has reverb and tremolo on one channel. I've used it for bass too. Those old Acoustic amps suffer today from tube snobbery, but the thing to r...

My First Brand New Rickenbacker

Man, I've got the disease... last summer I bought a used 360/6 JG, which quickly became my number one favorite guitar. Then last month I found a beautiful 330/6 FG on craigslist, which has also been very cool. I am completely sold on Rickenbackers---I love how they sound and feel. The obvious next s...

Re: Peter Bucks Sound

I recall an interview from back in the day in which, when asked about amps, Buck said that he could get his tone out of pretty much any amp. Now, musicians have been known to employ misdirection in such situations, but he sure seems to always sound like himself. Twin vs. AC30 is not that similar (an...

Re: How does this Guy sell anything??

I've been watching Rick sales on eBay pretty carefully for several weeks now and it does not look to me like those ridiculously-priced guitars are actually selling. I've seen guitars sell for a lot more than I would expect---and not unusual or vintage instruments; stuff like recent 360s in Fireglo o...

Re: Head To Head: Beatles vs Rolling Stones

I love the Beatles, but "From Me to You" has got to be one of the weakest songs in their catalog. And I don't think the Stones really found their voice till they tossed Brian Jones, but they had a few shining moments before then and "It's All Over Now" was one of them. So, the St...

Re: Their Satanic Majesties Request

TSMR has its high and low points, but it sure seems like the Stones trying to be something that they weren't. It's like seeing a cow dressed up with clothes and make-up.

Re: Led Zeppelin

Zeppelin is not really metal, but they were very heavy, and I think that's where the conflation of them with heavy metal comes from. Jimmy Page's real legacy will be as a producer: he managed to give weight to music that it had not really had before. In particular, the recording of drums on Zeppelin...

Re: Heading out to the highway with Judas Priest

I know there are some big Priest fans here, so let 'er rip! Wow, not as many as you'd think, apparently. But I guess the dearth of Priest albums in people's top ten lists was a sign. Well, they are definitely MY favorite metal band. I discovered them around the time of Hell Bent for Leather and was...
