Re: ORIGINAL V HIT

Cheri, I hadn't realised Roy was doing this new game on here... I have already chosen my favourite version of this song on My Gen... it is the same as your choice, Gerry and The Pacemakers for me as I prefer Gerry's voice and the arrangement and even though Bobby Darin wrote the song, for me, Gerry ...

Re: The Searchers Meet Tim Rice

Mike- The Quiet One? Mike seemed to speak in a very sweet, soft voice! About him leaving the group: We have Frank's version (in his book), and John's (interviewed at length in Michael Ober's Then Play On book, 1992). Have Mike ever talked the subject over? It is probably to his credit that he has k...

Re: The Searchers Meet Tim Rice

This is a great thread. I'm a big Mike Pender fan, always was and always will be. His vocal skills are so classic and to me in the same category as Orbison and the Everly's. Just listen to Good Bye My Love- amazing. I'm also a guitar player and really love his 6/12 strings accomplishments. His Gibs...

Re: US V UK 18

No competition for me Roy... I love Simon and Garfunkel and I like their version of this song best... although The Bachelors' version sounds good! I saw Art Garfunkel, with his band, in 2008 and 2009 and both times he sang this song (and most of their old duets) and he sounds great on his own as he ...

Re: US V UK 17

I don't like either version, but having to choose one of them, I'll go for James Ray, but just because Freddie Garrity always irritated me with all that daft jumping around he did and I never used to like his songs or his voice!

Re: US V UK 16

I prefer The Four Tops version of this song! Even though I wasn't a big fan of their music, I did think this was one of their better songs. The beginning of The Fourmost's version sounds a bit on the 'weak' side and improves 30 seconds into the song, whereas The Four Tops version sounds consistently...

Re: Favorite Era of The Searchers?

Ilike a lot of Mary Chapin Carpenter stuff, don't think she recorded Hearts but thanks for clip. As an asdied I sent John McNally some years back her song He Thinks He'll Keep Her as I felt it was right for them, he liked it but they didn't do it. Then a few years later Mike Pender put it in his ac...

Re: Frank Allen interview

YouTube did let me upload the clip again as an MPEG with 347MB so the quality should be a little better than the one with only 30MB!

Re: Frank Allen interview

here's part 2 for those who may be interested quality not brilliant but at least you can watch it. Sorry about the quality Roy as it started out at 760MB and had to be compressed down to about 40MB after having about 15 attempts at trying to upload it as it was, but better than nothing I suppose......

Re: US V UK 15

I like both.. but prefer the backing music of Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders' version and I like Wayne's voice... then and now! As a teenager I liked the group and their songs and I saw them together a couple of times... I also saw The Mindbenders after they had split with Wayne and I loved their...

Re: us v uk 14

Out of the two versions of Venus in Blue Jeans, I prefer Mark Wynter's as I find his voice a bit more 'tuneful' than Jimmy Clanton's and I also think the intro is better. I also like Mark Wynter's version because it reminds me of my growing up years and was amongst the many records that my parents h...

Re: US V UK 13

Hmmm... I like The Dave Clark Five version better than the other two this week Roy as I think Brian Poole and The Tremeloes sing it too quickly. The speed Brian sings Do You Love Me? at these days is better but if I have to pick one, then I'll go for Brian Poole's version this week!

Re: When You Walk In The Room

Each Time is as you say Cheri, a lovely song and I love Mike's voice. He was good at hitting those high notes! :D
