Re: Wish List - Rickenbacker bass Offerings and Features

A faster way to deploy the mute would be nice. Agreed, I’d like it if were spring loaded, so you just pull on one of the buttons and it pops up with the option to fine tune the final height to get the right amount of muting depending on your action/preference etc. Once set you could just flick it o...

Re: Rickysounds wide & close nut experience?

Yes I just wrapped the handle of a screwdriver in a cloth (to stop anything getting scratched) and put it against the nut and tapped it gently until it came off. From what I can see the Ricky sounds nut is the exact same size as the original.

Re: Rickysounds wide & close nut experience?

I fitted one to my recently purchased 2001 330/12. Made a big improvement to the playability much more comfortable and easier to play in the open positions. As you may have read it spaces the pairs closer together and then spreads the courses out across the fret board. The outer most strings are clo...

Re: Wow! Labella Deep Talkin' Flats on my 4001.

I have LaBella 43-104 gauge strings on my JMJ Mustang. It sounds so good with these I am tempted to try DTFs again on one (or more?) of my Rics. I thought I had finally settled in as a Chromes guy... but there is a really perfect mid-range character to the LaBellas compared to the Chromes with almo...

Re: Strings for 360/12 (now that TI flats are no more)

Does anyone know a source in the UK for the TI set? I've looked at both ricstrings.com and individual strings on juststrings.com and it adds up to a lot of money when shipping to UK is included - and also no doubt the lovely people at Her Majesty's Excise and Duty will add on their fees  Thank...

Re: Rounds or Flats on your Ric bass?

Using Fender 9050L flats at the moment. After trying a few different brands over the years, they seem to be the “Goldie locks” strings for me in terms of sound and tension/flexibility. They feel just right and I find the sound to be combination of my favourite rounds and flats tones. They’re also ea...

Re: The CORRECT McCartney Conversion...

James - McCartney's '63 Höfner has dark green silks. Maybe, but the 760fx set has orange silks. That set is not the Beatle bass set but it does use the same gauges and is also in the deep talkin range http://www.bassstringsonline.com/La-Bella-Deep-Talkin-Flat-Wound-Single-String-Build-your-own-Cust...

Re: The CORRECT McCartney Conversion...

I received my copy of Paul's book the other day; the strings in that picture look like they have orange silks, which is the same as labella 760fx strings I have on my 4003S. McCartney is known to use labellas on his hofner and the 760fx set is the same gauge as the labella Beatle bass set he suppose...

Re: Any controversial years of bass manufacturing?

It mainly seems to be cosmetic things that vary between years that come up e.g. Skunk stripes, the size of the fretboard inlays and how the shade of a particular finish has varied (thinking of fireglo here) over the years. That and variances in neck sizes between different eras. These are mainly pla...

Re: Put some Labella Flats and EB Cobolts on my 4003's...likey

I put a set of Labella 760FX (the lightest gauge) for the first time on my 4003 today. Really impressed with them, as you said they are very bright out of the packet so it will interesting to see how they mellow, at the moment they have my favourite characteristics of rounds and flats. I love the fe...

Re: Revisiting ISOLATED TRACK thread...

PLEASE NOTE: YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE UNWANTED TRACKS ONE BY ONE TO KEEP THEM OFF THE SONG WHEN EXPORTING. IF YOU DON'T NO CHANGES WILL BE REPRESENTED ON THE MP3. If you use audacity - there is a way to batch export the tracks i.e. you end up with an mp3 of each individual track, it saves a lot of ti...
