Re: NBD -- What color is it?

I do prefer the later Ruby colour - here's my "tomato" from 1986

Not sure its definitive but the use of crosshead screws is something I've not seen before. These were pulled from a Feb 71 4001

Re: The 21 Fret 4001 Basses Thread

It looks gorgeous Kevin. Nearly bought a BRG 4003 a while back and then some unexpected expenses nipped that in the bud. it's a fantastic colour that looks wonderful with the vintage features. Did you have it refretted as well? I didn't Shaun, they were/are still in pretty good condition. That may ...

Re: The 21 Fret 4001 Basses Thread

Hi Kevin, You did what I was too afraid to at the time. The front looked so stunning I couldn't bring myself to have it refinished, especially with it being so rare, plus of course I had other issues with it which I wasn't sure would be resolved anyway, although they may have been helped if it had ...

Thanks Tom, the work done has (IMO) really improved the whole playability and sound.
Hopefully this headstock pic shows the colour a little clearer

Ok so I took the plunge and had the old 21 fretter that belonged to Kevin (Teeder) and Shaun (Henry5) overhauled. She now has Hi Gains, Push Pull pot for the Vintage/Modern sound and a brand new coat - British Racing Green. I hardly recognise her

Re: What kind of bass amp do you use with your Rickenbacker?

Orange AD200B into a Barefaced Big Twin 2. OK the amp is still as heavy as the old OR120 I had back in the day but the Barefaced is so much lighter than the old Custom built (2x15, 1x12 and HF) cab I had. Can't beat the Orange / Rickenbacker combination in my opinion

Earlier this year I played on the same bill as Martin Turner of Wishbone Ash
First band I ever saw - Sheffield City Hall Oct 1977...the night they recorded "Bad Weather Blues" (which became the B-Side of "You See Red") :D

Re: The 21 Fret 4001 Basses Thread

I bought her from Shaun (henry5) - around 2010 I believe. I've not changed anything on her yet other than raise the action a little as it was too low for me. She's not my favourite player (although the neck is wonderful) but she is still played at home regularly. She's the least "Rick" sou...

I paid £4k GBP for mine just over 5 years ago. I think the prices dipped slightly after that but seem to be gaining again.

Re: Finish on a 4001CS

Did somebody say banana pudding? I'm assuming my '78 was white at one time, but it has aged very evenly and doesn't smell like smoke. I also like the color as it has aged. That's pretty much the colour of the CS although you can get a faint "smoke" smell from the body DSC01692ss.JPG

Re: Finish on a 4001CS

Thanks for the info guys....I'll leave her as is for the time being.
I remember the "smokin" one from a few years back with the uniform "NicotineGlo" finish - I think it had been hung in a bar in Japan for about 15 or so years without being played.
