Re: 4003 new bridge / string saddle screws - help please!
Being a precision mechanic maybe I can help: From counting the threads the M3 is about 10mm long. So the original screw seems to be the same length. A M3 has 50,8 threads per inch. Adding the tip, yours has about 16 threads for 10mm. That means 40 threads per inch. Now threre are some possibilities,...

Re: Rickenbacker truss rods change to modern design
Here is a very good video for explanation what double/ single action means: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad8nqm5qP6A So :The "usual" rods of a Rickenbacker are single action. Most Rickenbackers made 1960 and later have double truss rod necks. That means two of them. It is not the same l...

Re: Rickenbacker truss rods change to modern design
You're right - it is a curved and glued in piece of wood. To be exactly: two of them.

Re: Bridge pickup in 4003 weak - vintage tone switch?
You just have to connect the lugs of the cap with a wire - then it is bypassed. To measure the PU you can plug a normal cable into the instrument, open volume and tone completely, select via the switch only this pu and measure the resistance at the other end of the cable. - Done in a few minutes wit...

Re: question about Capri's
Tons of input, great!
BTW: The "Old Capri" had just one truss rod and an unfinished fretboard.
- Maybe that was the same time they used ovangkol? These little "cheeks" at the headstock were during those days, too.

Re: question about Capri's
I think they didn't went back to ovangkol. After that it was walnut - like Your example - and then there was a change to walnut. Later they switched over to stained maple. Unfortunately there are not much informations around - or I don't know them. All in all Rickenbacker is famous for a special kin...

Re: question about Capri's
Are you absolutely certain that the center strip was ovangkol? ... Ouch! - Quite, yes. There were guitars with ovangkol in the 50s, about 1960 there was a change to walnut, AFAIK. Today RIC is using stained maple - said JH in an interview of a factory tour filmed by premier guitar. The 1958...

Re: question about Capri's
BTW: Does somebody have informations about the back? Some guitars had plywood (what kind of?). Judging from pictures others have solid backs (again: what kind of wood?). Another question is this strange bar insinde the guitar that is visible when you remove the pick guard. A '58 360 I saw does not h...

Re: question about Capri's
What I found out:
The middle stripe is ovangkol and the fretboard is made of padouk.
Ovangkol is the name here in my region for shedua - some more information about:
https://www.rarewoodsusa.com/product/shedua-9/
Directly asked: Do You want to build a capri?

Re: question about Capri's
The 325 C 58 has an alder neck, yes.
The 1958 360 Capri I saw has got a (flamend) maple neck with a stripe of ovangkol in the middle. For the fretboard they used padouk.
The body itself was alder.

Schaller usually offers drawings of their products with all importantant measurements. See here: http://schaller.info/en/machine-heads/ Another information from here: I measured my 2010 330 and a 1958 capri: Both headplates play around 16mm. The capri differs a bit: 15,5mm at the end of the headstoc...

Re: Source for short pole toaster magnets wanted
So far I decided to got two ways: 1. I'll call a few pickup shops that offer restoration work for pickups. 2. Obviously there's no click and pay solution. So I have to find somebody that offers some affordable custom work. - Well, the next evenings a few mails to write... Thank You for the links and...
